front and center

I am not putting this babycables vintage cardigan down! As soon as I could start knitting last night, I cast on for the first front. I adore the little cable detail along the button band. And there's also some very subtle waist shaping that you might be able to spy on the side.

The yarn I have for the fronts is a different dyelot and is looking a bit darker than the first two skeins I had. Or less red. Or something. I'm not convinced that it's too different, but I'm not entirely convinced that it's okay either. Seriously, does anyone have a couple of skeins of Lavold Silky Wool in color #24 (maybe even dyelot #370) that they could part with? I'm still knitting, but I'd reknit for the right dyelot. (What we knitters wouln't do for the right dyelot, eh?)

2sticks on Ravelry has 2 skeins for sale in the same colour and lot....

I never used the swap feature before but it looks cool.

Thanks Anne-Marie, I already tried her but the yarn is unavailable right now. So I'm still looking....

Sadly, I don't have any of the yarn in the right dyelot, but I wanted to post a comment to let you know that I think that the cardigan looks great! When I asked my husband if he could tell a difference in the colors between the two pieces he looked at me like I was insane, so I don't think that many people would notice the difference!

Sorry no yarn but wouldn't have noticed a color difference if you hadn't mentioned it. Lovely color.

Can you add a color (like white) along the seam to "separate" the different reds? I think that a contrasting color would be enough to distract our eyes from the very slight color difference. Perhaps a small crocheted seam accent or something? It looks very lovely.

Since you used one dyelot on the back and one on the front, I really don't think anyone will ever notice--even another knitter. It's not like there's a horizontal line right in the middle of a piece. I have a coat I knitted of Malabrigo, and I had two completely different shades. The color changes happened in the middle of the back and the middle of a sleeve, and not even my knitting buddies have ever noticed.

Wow - glad to see you're plugging along so quickly (and enjoying yourself too I hope) Carol said you were knitting away on it last night and that it looks lovely. I'm inclined to agree with Suzanne V. on the dyelot thing - esp since the fronts and backs are divided, but you can see the colors better in person than I can on a screen... if only I had a few skeins laying around!

I have two skeins of Dyelot 119. I don't know if that helps any.

Sorry I don't have any of the yarn but have you tried posting a request on the Yahoo KnitSwap list? It's a long shot but it might work.

You know, I've knit like this before (2 obviously different dye lots) and after a good wash in the sink with some shampoo the color was all evened out. You might want to give it a shot if it bugs you... you know, non-knitters will never notice because it is such a lovely sweater and so well done.

If you're not opposed to reknitting, you might try alternating two rows of one dyelot with two rows of the other. This would produce a faint shadow striping.

Reds are so hard to match! The cardi looks great, though!

I love baby cables. They are cute. Lol!

That is brilliant, Heather!! I'm totally doing that. Now I can keep thinking positive. Thanks! :)

Love the baby cables. Which pattern are you using. Just came by your site. Sorry can't help with the yarn. Do you really think somebody will notice the color difference?

If you are still worried about dyelot I have some info for you. I did a little snooping on Ravelry and found that YarnDoc has 1 skein in the right dyelot, EvanstonMichelle has 1, StickaErika has 4, and jcallaway has 2. None of these people has them specifically listed for sale or trade, but maybe if you offered to trade for the same color, just different dyelot? It looks great by the way!
