what I hadn't taken into account was...

The fact that any pink animal face, especially one with a pointy nose, was going to look like a pig.

"ted purse" from Jaeger JB-29

Presenting Peg, the pink pig purse. I had to rename her. I mean, Ted is for a bear and this ain't no bear.

Hubby says it looks like a mouse. For some reason S keeps saying elephant. But I think it's a pig. Especially without the little felt piece over the hole at the nose (gotta find the craft felt still!). There is supposed to be a little embroidered mouth under the nose as well, but I kinda like it minimalist like this. And she does too.

So what does wee one think it is? Well, let's just say, she's already started sucking on the nose.

I love it even more as a piggy! So cute :)

It worked out beautifully! I love the pink pig!

Hmm it doesn't scream pig to me.. I still think it looks like a bear pigs have pointy ears!!

Posted by: Denise at July 9, 2008 10:01 AM

i can see the elephant...big ears, long nose/trunk. reminds me of "pink elephants on parade." but hey, the baby likes it, so who can argue??

Posted by: ruth at July 9, 2008 10:32 AM

You know, Denise, I can still kinda see the bear too. I kept thinking it was just because I'd looked at the pattern picture so many times though. Maybe with the felt nose and the embroidery, I could push her back into bear-dom.

I see the elephant. I think it would look more pig-like if the nose were a little stubbier and the ears were more pointy. But it's adorable, and the baby obviously likes it!

Looks like an elephant to me, with the hole in the end of the long-ish narrow nose, and the big ears.

I made my daughter a pink monkey, and it definitely looks like a monkey. No piggishness there!

What a cute piggie! (and I think I have your black craft felt if that's what you are looking for.)

Posted by: Johanna at July 9, 2008 11:46 AM

That's adorable! It defniitely looks like a pig from the size! But I have to agree that it looks like a mouse.

Posted by: Lindsey at July 9, 2008 1:26 PM

Adorable & I agree with the majority - so much cuter as a pig - Petunia! If it were grey & the nose (snout?) a bit pointier, I'd agree with mouse. But, doesn't matter what any of us think. Seems Wee One (the only relevant opinion) likes it a lot.

Posted by: Donna at July 9, 2008 1:54 PM

In the face-on photos, I was thinking anteater. In the last photo, with wee one, I can see the snout's shorter; I think embroidery can push it back into "pink bear" territory. Regardless, it's cute.

Work it with a black nose and then switch to cream and you'll have a sheep!

Posted by: Plain Jane at July 9, 2008 3:58 PM

Whatever it is... it's adorable. Maybe you can call it a bearphantlet?

I think it looks like a sheep. It's definitely got sheep ears, not pig's!

It reminds me of the backup singers in the ma-na-ma-na song on the Muppet Show. Very cute!

Posted by: Red at July 9, 2008 6:43 PM

Aaaaah, now I've got that manamanah song in my head! ;0)

That is adorable and I hate to be a killjoy but...I think that strap around your baby's neck is a safety hazard. I'm betting that the American Academy of Pediatrics has some guidelines about non-breakaway straps for a child this young. I'm a teacher and this worries me.

Thanks Meg. I definitely watch her when she's got something around her neck. She loves necklaces and draping ribbons and all kinds of things around her neck (such a girly girl), but it requires extra diligence on my part.

Posted by: ALISON at July 9, 2008 7:21 PM

Thanks...I just needed to say that and I appreciate your response.

Posted by: Meg at July 9, 2008 7:36 PM

Pig, mouse, elephant, whatever! Whatever you call it, it's cute!

Posted by: Loralie at July 9, 2008 8:36 PM

OK, I was seriously pondering what kind of critter it looked most like, considering the pros and cons -- till I got to your last sentence and burst out laughing.

Now my view of the purse has totally changed! Granted, I'm an OB/GYN and breastfeeding advocate, so maybe a little slanted, but now it's the nursing purse to me!

Posted by: Cathy-Cate at July 9, 2008 9:29 PM

That is adorable! I burst out laughing.

Posted by: Carolyn at July 9, 2008 9:48 PM

I'm the odd one out, it totally looks like a goofy pink monkey to me. It might be the puckered expression ;)

Posted by: Chris at July 9, 2008 9:55 PM

It looks like a hybrid to me! And, perhaps, a sunburned one at that.
Who knows what will evolve next, but we can all say we saw it here first!

That is so adorable! All of your knitting is fantastic :)

LOL!

Posted by: Orli at July 13, 2008 10:31 AM

I love, love, love it! But then, I am a pig enthusiast. Is this your own pattern, or does it come from a book? I'd love to make a couple for some grandkids.

Posted by: Mary at July 14, 2008 11:41 AM

Cute bag!...my first thought was a mouse

Posted by: Patty at July 14, 2008 9:39 PM

It worked out beautifully! but I love baby more.
