boys of summer

Yesterday, for an early birthday present, I took the boys to their very first ballgame at Fenway Park. The Red Sox vs. the Twins. The Twins - how perfect! They were so excited. And so was I!

The boys wanted to make a sign to hold up between innings, in the hopes of maybe making it on tv. The game was much too interesting for the tv crew to be picking folks out of the crowd though. There were a lot of hits and a lot of runs, but still it stayed close for the first six innings. Then came the seventh....

bases loaded - look for Tek's red socks on second base!

In the seventh, we loaded the bases and scored a total of 7 runs, turning the game into a bit of a blowout. But if you're a 7-year old boy and your team is doing the blowing out, it's awesome!

If I zoom in on the green monster in the back, you can almost see the final score of 18-5.

I live for this.

Hey! We were there too. And it looks like, from your view of the scoreboard, that we were in the same section.

We did NOT last past the 7th inning. Just too hot. But this wasn't Owen's first trip to the ballpark. That was when he was five and stood on his chair screaming "throw the heat Papelbon!!" in his cute little five year old voice.

The first trip to Fenway is magical. I'm glad the boys enjoyed it.

OH! I watched some of the game on TV and was so sad...because I live in Minnesota, and am also a Twin, and a huge Twins fan. Oh...it was such a sad game for me. Clearly, our pitchers were working for the Red Sox. Oh well...better than the Yankees! I'm glad you and the boys had fun!

You really hit your own home run yesterday -- what an experience for the boys' first trip to Fenway. Depending, you may want to save the clippings from the game to keep it alive for them (and encourage them to read the sports pages).

That's so cool. Lucky boys!
I've never been to a game at Fenway but did get to see Dave Matthews there a couple years ago and The Police last year. I agree with Cait-it is magical. I got goosebumps the first time I walked in and saw the field.

That is one SWEET field. We went there on our honeymoon...the tour was awesome too, best $12 I ever spent. And we had AMAZING seats for a good deal. We actually got to our seats and were like, noooo, this can't be right. So glad the boys enjoyed it!

How cool! I look forward to visiting Fenway one day soon! Great pics!

My first trip to Fenway was my wedding night. And while I'm a Yankees fan, I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for Fenway.

Glad you guys had such a great day AND a win!

What a great picture story!

I really want to go to the Fen. It's one of my must sees.

Definitely a memory-making moment for your boys. That's awesome. It isn't really summer without baseball, is it? :)

What a great first game!!!

Until my girls were 10 & 13 (when we moved to the burbs for better high schools) we always lived within walking distance of Wrigley Field. I used to take them to Cubs games on occasion & they always loved the blowouts (which are totally boring to adult fans) the best. There is nothing like a lovely warm summer afternoon spent at an old fashioned ball park. Wrigley Field has an advantage in being quite close to Lake Michigan (which means cooler temps in the summer & usually at least a bit of a breeze). My older daughter went to BU & her dorm rooms were always fairly close to Fenway. I think they are the only 2 ballparks left of the great old ones. The rest are all relatively new & sterile. You can see in the pics how much the boys enjoyed the day. What a great BD present!

Aww, they look like they had so much fun.
True story: I once asked the very-Boston father of one of my friends what "This green monster thing is" and when I got an answer, was all "So... it's a thing?"
Please don't shun me.

My husband's dream is to one day see the Sox play at Fenway. He also wants to see the Flames play at the Saddledome.

Awesome! Great game for their first, awesome last inning!
I'm hoping to go at the end of this month.

Having been to my first game at Fenway back in May - I have to agree it is a truly magical place!

Go RED SOX!!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

What an awesome idea - taking twins (S&B) to see the twins (from Minnesota). Great sign! I hope the boys had as good a time as I am sure Mom did - particularly given the final score.

So exciting that you were at *that* game! A pitcher's duel would just not have been that exciting - the last game I went to was in 2007, right after the Mother's Day miracle, and it was cool because Dice-K pitched a whole game, but no one hit a home run and Papelbon didn't get to come out (boo!). It's nice when they win when you're actually there, but it's even better when it's exciting, too!

Wow, you picked a good one, despite the heat. At the mall yesterday (hate the mall but had to go to the Apple Store to pick up my repaired laptop) I noticed that Build-A-Bear has Wally the Green Monster stuffies wearing little Sox uniforms. Even I was tempted.

Ah, Fenway Park! And what a great day to go to the game.

You're a cool mummy...I would not go to a soccer game...LOL
so were they able to sit still through the whole game? my husband tells me that baseball takes a long time...that's why he follows football (49ers) but his MA sister in brother in law are pretty nuts over all the sports Red Sox included.
