to be continued...

TrundleBot waits

Last night's game of RoboRally had to be paused on account of it being 9pm and way past bedtime. I could only get the boys away from the table if I promised to snap pictures of the game as we left it so we could set it up again and continue it today. B's TrundleBot (above) is way ahead, but S and I still have hopes of getting our little robots all the way through the maze of conveyor belts and lasers safely.

the factory floor where the robots race!

After putting the game away, I got to work on this.

wtf is that?

Also awaiting their continuation are the boys' lion and tiger toys. (Started last August. Progress made in January. Forgotten until now. Heh, heh. The last time I worked on and blogged about these, I joked that they probably wouldn't be done until July. Whoops. That's not going to happen.) Anyhoo, these little buggers are pretty complex, with shoe uppers and intarsia tummy patches and separate face muzzles (also with intarsia, natch). The yellow bit above is the head. That long flap folds down, then you flip it over, fold the sides in, sew the muzzle on and it's supposed to be an animal face.

Ya-huh. Now you can see why I'm always taking month-long breaks from this project. Thank goodness the boys are more anxious to get back to the robots than they are to have the stuffed animals!

I think the fact you have two to do that is the killer. But they will be soooo cute.

Good luck

What a cool looking game. Never seen that one before.

I've been reading your blog for a while and never commented, but had to come out of hiding at the mention of RoboRally. This may be my favorite board game and I was so excited to see it on your blog!

That game looks so cool. I noticed that the manufacturer suggests it's for ages 12+. How do you think younger ages would do (with help/teamwork, of course)? We've got birthdays coming up in my family, but no one is older than 9.

Meg, my boys just turned 7 and they do great with the basic game (no add-on options) and the simpler boards. As long as the kids are a little programmer/science-minded and know their right from left, they should be able to have tons of fun! And since it's about programming your own robot and not about keeping your cards secret or plotting against others, it's easy to help them check their plan for their turn. It's a must-have for robot-lovers!!

Roborally is an awesome game. It was what made me start to play games again. I was bored with monopoly and the other stuff that I saw everywhere else.

Now my husband and I collect games like I collect yarn. We barely have space for all the games.

Glad to know that little guys can play this game. Our nephew really wants to play with his aunt and uncle. I will tell him he needs to know his right and left before he can play.

I'm glad you clarifies what that yellow thing in the first picture is, because I thought is was something, uh, different. ;)

Yikes! What a detailed project. I would take month-long breaks too!

RoboRally looks uber cool--thanks for giving me another holiday idea!!

I was looking through your ravelry projects the other day (nosy, I know), and I was wondering what had become of the animals. Glad you haven't forgotten about them entirely...

Just wanted to give another shout-out for RoboRally!!! My friends and I play this game all the time (we are ages 20-35 so it is good for all ages)! We recently went on a weeklong backwoods camping trip and played midnight RoboRally every night!

I also am de-lurking at the mention of RoboRally. Among our friends, it is simply referred to as the game of Chaos, and it's super fun.
