pretty baby

The Shedir hat is just so pretty. And it's even prettier on a baby.

A big thanks to Jo for posting her mods to make a baby-sized shedir! My girl is actually a toddler now (a toddler?! can you believe it?!), so I upped Jo's numbers a bit to find a size between the baby shedir and the adult shedir. I cast on 112 stitches, which is seven pattern repeats, and worked 4 repeats of the main cable pattern. Like Jo, I skipped most of the plain knitting rounds between decrease rounds at the top. The finished hat doesn't quite cover wee one's ears fully (that calmer loves to shrink up), so I probably could have kept those rows in after all. I'd estimate it took about three-quarters of a ball of calmer (which is good, because I didn't have a full ball of this color to start with).

Finishing this one was a bit of a struggle for me, since I kept messing up those rows where the starting marker moves. I simply don't have the head for knitting anymore like I used to. I'm too tired at the end of the day to do semi-complicated knitting without screwing something up. But I hung in there. For this...

That face says it all and makes it worth any trouble. Both are beautiful. Thanks for all your inspirations.

Aww, she looks adorable! Great job.

She is just precious!

I'd say it was definitely worth it!!

That face is worth each and every stitch.
You have what is known as "Mommy Brain." May as well get used to it!

Oh, what a smile! Betcha she's hard to say 'no' to!

Beautiful, both hat and baby. One question though, do you remember how many to cast off for baby size. I have a new grandbaby on the way.

Thanks, Dee

Dee, follow the link in the post to Jo's blog and all the info on her baby shedir is there. Oh wait, I just remembered, she didn't actually say how many stitches she cast on. It's 96 stitches for the baby version (16 fewer - that's one repeat - than my version).

Adorable!

I love the Shedir hat.

When Wee One models it, it's that much better.

That last pic is a treasure!

That hat looks gorgeous, as does the model. It's hard to focus on knitting when you are really tired, so not too much of a surprise there with all three of your little ones keeping you on the go!

Hot diggity -- I wast *just* thinking this morning that I needed to make one of these for my chubby little monkey. Thanks for the reminder!

Beautiful hat and gorgeous smile. So SWEET!

I don't know how you find time to even blog....when my 2 boys were little, I was lucky to remember my name some days.

That's so funny...! I just 10 minutes ago finished up a pair of these as birthday gifts for some twin friends turning two. And I loved making it so much (or rather love the result!) that I've got plans to make one for my 18 mo old daughter as well. Wee one looks adorable in her new hat! =)

Lovely! The last photo is what it's all about.

I made that hat. for an adult...it's a lot of work...not an easy knit for me.
What I loved best was the star at the top...the cables I found created a much to fussy hat...or too busy looking if you know what I mean.
wee one sure looks pretty in red.

What a wonderful, wonderful smile!
