going batty

B's bat hood is totally cool! I'm so proud of myself for making it, with its inner lining, the pointed little pleated ears, and the elastic in the back to get the fit just right.

There's some darn good sewing in there. When I showed it to B, he said, "Cool. But I don't have to wear the hood the whole time." Uh, you mean the like "whole" forty-five minutes of trick-or-treating? Oh yes you do, buddy! Mommy spent twice that much time making you this kick-ass bat hood and you will be wearing it. Seriously though, it really does top off the entire look to have the sleek black bat head and ears thing going on. And once B tried it on and looked at himself in the mirror, he was convinced too. He liked it so much, he couldn't resist that little grin when I took his picture. Being a bat is cool.

Cutest bat I've ever seen. Great job on the hood. I still have the hood to the shark costume to do today. The suit part looks so cute with a big fin just below the neck on the back & a tail below that. I can't understand why they stopped producing this pattern - it is a lot cuter (IMHO) than the current shark costume (altho that one does look a lot easier to make).

Donna, which pattern exactly are you making? I'd love to see it!

Also had a hood experience one Halloween - not quite as fancy as yours (no lining), but it did have dinosaur scales - definitely a "must wear" due to the work involved!

Plus, it's going to be chilly this year, he'll appreciate the head coverage when everyone else in the neighborhood is shivering :)

Half of the Halloweens of my childhood involved wearing my costume over my winter coat. If Boston is anything like Chicago, he'll want to wear the hood!

Not one of my kids has ever come home from trick-or-treat still wearing the mask or hood he started out with. They can't stand having anything on their heads, no matter how much trouble it was, how integral it is to the costume, or how much it cost. A sad legacy of living in a climate where hats are unnecessary, I suppose. I can't stand having anything on my head, either.

Best. Halloween. Costume. Ever.

Except for the shark perhaps!

Your boys are terribly lucky!
