halloween 2008: bigger, scarier, fluffier and with even more sewing

Look at those halloween cuties! The boys were so excited about their costumes, they insisted on putting them on about three hours before trick or treating time and playing in the house with them on. They just couldn't wait!

B's costume came out awesome. It was a ton of bits and parts (mask, hood, belt, boot covers...), but, man, does it all come together.

He was the happiest bat you've ever seen. After about a half hour of trick or treating, he started giving me his basket to hold so he could run down the sidewalk flapping his big wings.

S's shark was a huge success in the neighborhood. We turned the first big corner and a young boy practically shouted, 'ohh, it's a shark!' Good review.

I love the side view too - it's a sort of kinder, gentler side of the shark.

And wee one loved her tutu. She was all ready to go out with the boys in just her orange shirt (yes, hubby, it did end up being part of her costume!). Then I told her she needed to put on her tutu. She looked up at it and smiled, did a little excited dance and said "ooo-ooo". So cute!

I topped off her pumpkin tutu with one of the pumpkin hats I knitted for the boys for their very first Halloween. She was greeted at every house with "awwwww"s. What more could a crafty mom ask for?!

Wow, what an amazing collection of costumes. Your kids obviously love them - how lucky they are to have such a crafty mom! You should be really proud of how they all came out.

Awesome costumes!

Very cute. The Bat costume is especially neat. Wee One makes an adorable pumpkin - what a great idea. At her age, you're probably lucky she didn't want to go out in just her shirt. Baby M (who is having her 2nd BD in 11 days) has entered the terrible 2's with a bang & one of the things she most likes to do to show her independence is to strip down to her bare skin. She can manage it in about 20 seconds.

Gosh - these are adorable costumes. How fun. Yeah. You get my award for best Mom of the year. I know those kids will cherish their talented Mom always.

Delurking to say 'great job' on all of the costumes.

When my son was four I spent hours making a batman costume also. So your costumes brought back memories. Ahh, lycra and fake leather - it was a challenge.

LOL They look awesome! You did a great job!

Your son's shark costume reminded me of the Ready Freddy by Abby Klein books. My guess is that the boys have read those--That shark costume was right out of the book!

Love the shark costume. I am trying to knit the owl- Errol - for Nov. 6 (new HP movie. I am having trouble fitting the base on the edge. Help.

Posted by: mlhansen at November 2, 2008 4:26 PM

Great Costumes.

Hate to break the news to mlhansen, but the HP movie release has been delayed until NEXT SUMMER! Bummer, huh? Oh well, at least she (or he) will have plenty of time to finish up Errol.

Posted by: Sandee at November 2, 2008 7:26 PM

Yeah, ml, sorry to tell you that the new HP movie isn't happening this year. I was really excited to make a new sweater and now it won't even be sweater weather when it comes out. Grrrrrrr..... Errol will still be very cute though, and can keep you company while you wait for the new release date to come.

Awesome. I'm thinking of dressing Emily as a strawberry for Purim this year. If I can manage to knit the hat.

Posted by: Orli at November 3, 2008 4:24 AM

They look fantastic! Great job!

Posted by: lindsey at November 3, 2008 1:12 PM

Great costumes! My mom used to make wonderful costumes like this when I was growing up. Now I appreciate all the hard work! Just the other day she was telling me about the time she made the ballerina costume and the entire living room was covered in tulle. She went a little pale with the recollection and kept saying never, never again.

Posted by: Amy at November 3, 2008 1:19 PM

They all came out so awesomely!!! Lucky kids. :-)

Posted by: Eklectika at November 3, 2008 2:17 PM
