Oh yes, the holiday music has arrived already. And we heard plenty of it this weekend.
They loved the 3-D sleigh ride and the wooden soldier Rockettes falling down in line, the snow falling in the theater and when confetti was shot out into the crowd from a toy canon. Wee one spent the show getting to know the ushers and sellers in the lobby with the other tots scared by the loud music. She enjoyed her official Radio City popcorn very much though!
Despite the fact that the holiday season seemed to start the day after Halloween this year, I haven't made any plans yet for holiday gifts. But I did make this advent calendar in a recent quilt class:
Now I've got to figure out what to put in it! Hmmm... something else to add to my list.

Sounds like a wonderful weekend! Christmas started in March around here. I am about to finish the 19th Fair Isle hat (big family) and then I will rest and listen to some of that holiday music.
WOW! I want to experience NYC in the winter! what fun!
is the advent calendar a panel?
Oh yes, Chris, it's a panel from Makower with pockets you cut out and fold and press and sew on to the background. It was fun and I finished it in day!
I'm so far behind I don't know how far behind I am. ;-)
I'm at least a year behind. I'm just going to give up all the big ideas and just finish my dad's sweater. And weave a shawl for my mom. That's it. I swear.
Ever since I instituted my "No Knitted Gifts" policy, I don't get behind...at least on knitting. ;)
Oh wow your advent calender is beautiful!! i am making one this year as well-24 little stockings-i need to get to it still far from being done, about 25%.
I bet the show was really neat and its never to early for christmas at least not in retail and a few houses around here are all decorated already too.
I'm not behind until American Thanksgiving. I love thd calendar. I'm a grinch about "cheap chocolate in the morning" calendars.
Love your Advent calendar. I haven't heard any Christmas music yet but I did hear an announcement on the radio over the weekend that the Holiday Season is now officially open (according to Mayor Daly - I don't remember him ever making an official announce3ment before - I mean there's the lighting of the big official Christmas tree but I think that is the day after Thanksgiving. I haven't been in too many department stores lately (Field's was my big go to store for holiday shopping but, with many others, I am boycotting Macy's for changing the name of a Chicago institution). We had a similar experience over the weekend but in previous years I've seen Christmas stuff as early as Columbus Day (altho not all the decorations - just stuff in their trim a tree shop). My older daughter, my SO & I took the little ones to the Circus (they were spending the weekend with their aunt & we wanted to help out). They all loved it but my daughter did spend some time out in the lobby area with Baby M - not that she was afraid of anything (she's pretty fearless) but it was just too long for her & she got restless. I'm glad to hear that your boys enjoyed Radio City - they have a troupe here every year & I've thought about taking the kids but wasn't sure they'd enjoy it. So maybe now I'll go buy some tickets.
My MIL used to say she hated to get up from Thanksgiving dinner, because she knew she was already behind for Christmas! I knit for X-mas all year 'round, knit until Christmas Eve, then start again the 26th!
LOVE the advent quilt! I am more behind than I want to admit. But I think this year, there will be lots of gift cards, very little knitting, and lots of rest, because we're visiting my kids BEFORE Thanksgiving and planning to deliver Christmas gifts then... which means I'll have the REST of December to celebrate with hubby.

2 months. What was I doing? But it happens every year- I have commitment issues until I have a deadline.
This time last year I was run raggard with college and working part-time so I wasn't in the holiday mood at all and Christmas music in November just aggravated me. I actually walked out of a store once because they were playing holiday music in November. This year, though, I'm feeling much more in the spirit so it's not bothering me. As for holiday knitting/crafting, I've set high tasks but I've got a couple of gifts done.
Love the advent calendar - my mom made one for us when we were little, and then made three more (one for each of us) when we got older to have in our own houses. I make the boys trade days for the treats, then they get one big thing to share on christmas morning. We stuff with all kinds of things - stickers, sweets, coins... all small and inexpensive. My mom used to individually wrap all the little advent gifts, but I've not ventured into that yet.
It looks like the boys has a lot of fun. I love their Rock and Roll t-shirts!
Thanks for the advent calendar suggestions, Kate! They're great! We never did Advent calendars so I don't really have a sense of what would be good to put in those pockets. You're ideas are a huge help! :)
Sigh. This was the year. Last month i went through the stash, found the patterns or WIPs I needed, made a freakin' xcel spreadsheet! I was all set to conquer the holiday crafting.
Which is no doubt why I ended up very sick for over 2 weeks and am now playing catch up with everything else in my life and so...am indeed....far, far, behind.
Sigh.
Love the Rock. Roll. T-shirts and sweats. My identical twin boys would love them!
I think NYC is at its absolute finest at Christmas. You can't beat it.

This book irratated me to no end. To bad sometimes we can't get over the styling. Sad thing is, she lives in the same general location as me in CA. & honestly, it's hot, why an alpaca sweater in the first place? The beach is NOT cold.
