decked hansel

Wee one is also ready for the season with her new Santa hat! I picked up the pattern and the yarn at Morehouse Merino when I was at Rhinebeck last year. (So sad that they closed their "Sheep's Clothing" store there - definitely a factor in my last-minute decision not to go this year.) I spotted the kit in my stash a couple of weeks ago and promised myself I would get it done by December 1st, so wee one could have a whole month to wear it. Like all the Morehouse patterns, the hat was very simple to knit and yet totally adorable. The yarn is deliciously soft and snuggly too.

Now I've just got to work on getting her to say "ho, ho, ho!"

Oh so cute! I'm working on one for my Santa boy right now too. I had one all made up yesterday, almost to the point, when I realized that it was knit so stiffly that it had absolutely no "flop!" Back to the drawing board, but this time I'm using bigger yarn and bigger needles, so it's moving along much faster. Nothing cuter than a wee kidlet in a Santa hat!

No flop here either, Catherine! Wee one's hat stands straight up. I didn't have any larger dpn's so I knit it at a slightly smaller gauge than the pattern calls for. With the yarn doubled, that managed to make it stiff enough to stay upright on her head. I still like it though. Good for you for going back and doing it right. I'm sure yours will look awesome with just the right Santa flop!

Well...I must say that this adorable picture put a smile on my face this morning. So cute!

Very cute - she looks like she's very serious about checking that list!

I love it! I bet she'll surprise you with a hearty, "Ho Ho Ho!" soon enough. And I'm completely jealous of your pompom making ability. I've been reading instructions on how to do it, read every tip and bit of advice since I was a wee baby knitter and I've never been able to do it. I knit little Santa hat pins and use 1/2" store-bought pompoms because I'm such a pompom dork.

Oh Libby, I am total crap at pompoms! I used to have my knitbuddy Dani make my pompoms for me because mine sucked so bad. But now since she's moved far away, I've had to step it up and improve my pompom skills. I use a pompom maker and Dani told me to wrap that thing as full as I can. My pompoms are improving!

What a cute hat on such a cute girl!

Of course the very first thing my son noticed when he came up behind me was the "Tacky" book on the shelf behind Wee one! LOL

Wee One looks adorable in that hat. And the hat looks so nice & cushy.

Wow it surprising to hear the fabric is soft and squishy when it stands straight up so smartly!

It is, Marie. It's practically like roving, this stuff, so even though it's thick, having been knitted doubled, it's still squooshy.
