I will make socks this year.
I didn't knit any socks last year! Not even a pair of worsted weight socks for hubby, who loves to wear thick socks in the house in the winter. I'm ashamed to say that all of his handmade socks have had holes in the heels for a year and I still haven't picked up the needles to knit him a few new pairs. Until last night. My new knit year's resolution was to make him some socks (and possibly bribe him into helping me get the sockapalooza database back in shape so we can finally get sockapalooza 5 up and running). A week into the new year and it's time to get going on that resolution!

Those look really nice! I love the idea of big gauge socks (for super-quick knitting), so I might have to snag myself some of this yarn. Does it wear well?
It's 20% nylon, so it's made to hold up to some wear. Hubby wears his thick socks in the house with slippers and with boots when snow shoveling or sledding with the boys. The pairs I made for him lasted three or four years. He's still wearing them now; the heels have just been worn away. (PS - he's not doing any kind of special washing with them. He throws all his socks in the wash and hangs them to dry!)
The socks look really cosy, but I'm more excited about the possibility of a new Sockapalooza, I confess. :-)
I love those socks. I should make a similar pair for my husband.
one of my new year's plans is to learn to knit socks this year - perhaps Sockapalooza 5 is in my future? The pair you cast on for your hubby look very warm and sturdy.
I could get on that train... how about a Hubbypalooza where we all knit instant gratification worsted weight socks!
US 8s! You will have that done in a minute. Good way to check of the list. Hubby is getting his first pair shorty - I am certain more will be required.
Sockapalooza 5 - Yes!
that`s funny, i decided to cast on a pair for my husband today. dark grey. just 2 cables, needle4 (us6) ;) he wants to wear them in the winterboots.
wonderful how fast they grow and i could knit between my playing children.
have a nice evening, eva
How nice to read of a project for your better half!
Wow - those socks look great! Good luck with your resolutions.
I have to say my sock production for 2008 was similar to yours. With no Sockapalooza to get me in the mood of sock knitting, I turned to other kinds of patterns.
But just like you, I've decided to knit a few of them this year! I'm going to buy a socks pattern book and I hope you succeed in bribing the hubby to get that DB up and running ;)
Regards from the other side of the pond!
socks on US8 sounds like a pretty good knit to me!
Yeah!!! Go Hubbies!!!!!!!!!!!! (I like mine, too!)
I like those books by Budd. I've got the one for sweaters and it's the greatest reference I've ever used.
Darning socks is really quick and easy...there's a great video on YouTube. I just darned up a pair for my son as well as knitting him some new ones for work. Check out my blog for info!
I use the Ann Budd book too. A wonderful reasource.
