who doesn't love a swap?

I couldn't help myself and signed up for Sew Mama Sew's Fat Quarter Swap! I picked out some of my favorite fabrics from my lqs and will send one fat quarter out to eight different people. I should get eight fat quarters back and then we'll see what I can do with them.
I was explaining the swap to the boys (they had asked me why I needed eight little plastic baggies) and it reminded me of how they exchanged Valentines in school last Friday. B was very dubious about the whole exchanging thing - the math just didn't seem to work out for him: "But what if I bring a Valentine for everyone and someone doesn't bring in Valentines at all? I've given out 20 Valentines, but I'll only get 19 back. And do I get one from myself because if not, then they have one of mine but I don't and that's not fair." (Fairness is a BIG issue in a twin household, let me tell you.) I managed to talk him into handing out Valentines despite the obvious inequality of the whole swapping thing. The lure of candy helped balance things out a little.
Maybe I should toss in a Valentines lollipop with each of the fat quarters to make up for the possibly unfair results of a such an exchange? But if the others don't put candy in mine....

are you going to start quilting now?!
Isn't it funny that I am one of your swap pals? I wouldn't mind the grey "Aviary" fabric ; )!
I was so excited to see your name on my list, Valerie! Isn't this fun? :)
the fairness game isn't limited to twin households! My girls are almot 3 years apart & it was thier constant mantra for years until they realized that it was the worst way to get me to listen to them. Now my grandsons (who are 22 months apart) are driving us all crazy with the "It's not fair" chants. Gorgeous fabrics - I especially like the furthest right one.
Oh fairness is so important in our house too! My boys always make a valentine for themselves while making them for the class. lol
Oooh yeah that last one on the right is a real fave of mine. Alexander Henry, OF COURSE. Looove them! There's a bit of that fabric in my stash already for a little summer top for wee. :)
Ah, the twin thing...My nieces--twin nieces--are in middle school now, and the issue of fairness is still around--but it gets better, because it just about fairness it is more about establishing your own idenity. They have that one covered now, and at Christmas we had a white elephant swap--and one twin got the best gift--an ipod and the other got toe socks, and no one complained. It was wonderful, a point I never thought we would reach, but oh so wonderful.
My twins were concerned because they had picked out the same kind of valentines and didn't want to accidentally give the exact same valentine to a classmate. They also wanted to make sure that they got a valentine from eachother. (they are 5). Now, they both have heart decorated bags full of valentines and they are very careful not to mix them up.
I love the one before last...flowers and whales is cute too.
I think B should type up the rules for the next Sockapalooza...
