round 3

Tier three of wee one's twirly skirt and it's starting to look like it'll be able to earn its name. It's getting wider and poofier and cuter every row. There are A LOT of stitches there though, let me tell you. I am so not looking forward to knitting tier four! That's gonna be a slow twenty rows for sure. I'm going to need a long, engrossing movie for that section. Any suggestions?

Any of the Lord of the Rings Movies, or all of them!

This skirt is adorable. I'm anxious to pictures of the wee one twirling in it!

So adorable! :)

As for a movie, how about Gladiator or Braveheart?

Posted by: mari at March 29, 2009 5:28 PM

That has to be one of the most adorable things you have knitted, so far. You go, girl, on the final rounds!

Posted by: Cindy at March 29, 2009 6:14 PM

Definitely "Gone with the Wind"--not only long, but features lots of twirly skirts!

Tell your husband that wee knitted skirts are da bomb. Can't wait to see your little girl modeling this one!

Now if I could find a little girl of my own...

Wee ones skirts are the bomb!! Soooooo cute.
A movie "Australia" with Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman. It is at least 2hrs 40mins long....some good knitting time.

You might just need a season of tv--I spent a few dreary winter weeks doing early seasons of the Office, which was pretty great. And they're short enough that you can really say "just one more" and not feel like you're being sucked in...

Posted by: Jenny at March 29, 2009 8:39 PM

Wow, that's looking adorable. I can see why you're not looking forward to the last tier, but it will be worth every stitch!

Cute, cute, cute! I see it with a little white eyelet petticoat peaking out at the bottom. Or pantaloons? I'm not sure my girls have forgiven me for putting them in those! But they were CUTE.

I am thinking that I'll have to knit up one of these for my little girl! I suggest watching any of the Tom Baker era Dr. Who. I got a good chunk of knitting done while watching the Doctor with the scarf!

Well, the John Adams mini-series had me completely engrossed. That was great. I recall making the pinwheel baby blanket and going nearly numb from the knit, knit, knit, ad infinitum. Looks great!

Posted by: Jennifer at March 30, 2009 10:54 AM

I second the John Adams mini-series recommendation.

Also, Pride and Prejudice-- the one with Colin Firth- is a favorite of mine.

The Harry Potters? I was going to say the BBC Pride and Prejudice, but someone already said that one. Harry Potters are fun cause of all the knit stuff in them. Anyways, I love the skirt, it looks really cute!

Bleak House!
the one with Gillian Anderson
And just last night on PBS -->Little Dorritt started on Masterpiece!
it is awesome!

Alison, please disregard all the above recommendations. These folks are well-meaning, but clearly delusional. You need to skip right down to the Blockbuster Video and get yourself a copy of "Monty Python and the Holy Grail." Even if you are watching what's going on in your hands, the dialogue is priceless. Leave the sight gags for next time you watch.

Posted by: LibbyH at March 30, 2009 4:18 PM

Ha! That is a good one, Libby. I've had that one practically memorized for decades so I wouldn't have to look up at all. Oh my, I love the knights who say 'ni' and the shrubbery, and the huge tracks of land, and the great peril, and the eating of the minstrels, and the coconuts, and the breakfast cereals, and the intermission, and the air speed velocity of a swallow, and 1, 2, 5, and Dennis and Tim, and all of it...

Posted by: ALISON at March 30, 2009 4:35 PM

My default long movie for knitting is still Lord of the Rings. Beautiful scenery and, well, a huge amount of time. I've watched it (and Monty Python) so many times that I don't need to look up except when I want to see one of my favorite scenes!

Posted by: Seanna Lea at March 30, 2009 4:47 PM

Its cute! :) I was going to suggest LOTR as well.

Posted by: Samantha at March 30, 2009 7:16 PM

You could watch a season of a TV show. Something that requires some attention like Lost or West Wing. That will keep you occupied for the knitting humdrum.

Oh, or a British TV series. I loved MI-5 or Dr. Who.

Posted by: Laurie at March 30, 2009 10:20 PM

Princess Bride. That is all.

Posted by: Tola at March 30, 2009 10:27 PM

I see lots of suggestions for LOTR, always a good choice. Or have a Harry Potter marathon :) The skirt is adorable though!

Posted by: Melissa at March 30, 2009 10:34 PM

How about catching up with Battlestar Galactica? Season one is ENDLESS, but engrossing and if you have seen all the seasons, how about Caprica, or season 2.5??. I am sure you are tired of compliments on the darling little skirt, so let me widen the compliments and say how much I like how you mix prints and colors to dress your Wee One. You have a real flair.

Apropos of my previous comment, I was just browsing kids' patterns in Knitty, looking for other skirt patterns, and came across "Emma's Unmentionables," a pair of lacy pantaloons for a little girl. Are they your kind of thing?

Posted by: Mary K. in Rockport at March 31, 2009 9:08 AM

The skirt is sweet ... and I think a good movie to move along the long rows would be "Grease" ... the time flies, and the fingers do too as you watch the evolution of Danny and Sandy's love.

Or When Harry Met Sally (as long as the yarn is superwash -- there are a few parts in that movie that always make me cry!)
