round 4

Thanks to the delightfully distracting company at Knitsmiths and the charmingly engrossing little film My Neighbor Totoro, I'm almost through the last tier of wee one's twirly skirt. After all this stockinette, I'll be just about ready to get back to the crochet on wee's orange buttercup baby jacket. I hope wee appreciates all this!

It is so much fun to see your progress on this adorable skirt. (And I love the movie My Neighbor Totoro, all of Miasaki's films are brilliant and beautiful.)I always just post FOs, but I am going to to do the progress posts as you have on a sweater I just started. Thanks.

The skirt is so cute. Would you share how many skeins of Rowan handknit cotton you used of each color? I have several single skeins and I'm going to but more if I need to. My niece is about the same size as wee one. Thanks

Sure, Cyndy. I'm making the 4 yr size and needed 1 ball for the first tier, 1 ball for the second tier, 2 balls for the third tier (in fact, it was just a smidge OVER 1 ball... grrrr...), and I'm pretty sure I'll need to break into a 3rd ball for the last tier (again, only for the tiniest extra bit... grrrr....). So that's 7 balls altogether. I knit mine in the round, so there will be no seaming, but I didn't take out the extra selvedge stitches. I also did 20 rows of each color. If I had done a row or two fewer and cast on 4 fewer stitches, I might have gotten away with 5 balls for the skirt and I'm sure it'd still be plenty big.

Saw your Tweet and was wondering what knitting mystery you're reading? Oh, and the skirt is very cute, even if the yardages seem to be coming out in a frustrating amount.

I'm reading Dyer Consequences. It's like the 4th in the Maggie Sefton knitting mystery series. I'll be sure to give it a little review when I'm done....

Sooooo cute! I can't wait to see it on wee one.

WOW look at that. didn't much care for the movie...maybe it was because I had to read the subtitels.

I love the colours and look forward to the twirls. Thanks to your great commenters, my questions were answered. Perhaps we should have the "worst knitting book" awards.

Yes, My Neighbour Totoro is one of my favourite movies! If you liked it, I'd also check out Spirited Away and Kiki's Delivery Service. Spirited Away is a little more frightening, so it might be too much for wee one, but the boys might like it.

Spirited Away and Kikis Delivery Service are great films...but perhaps for when the boys get a bit older...they are a bit scary....

But a good one for them now is Pompoko, which is about a group of racoon dogs and their efforts to save their habitat from the expansion of the city.

Wow, that is so cute. Perfect colors and just in time for Easter. You always make the neatest stuff!
