going to pieces
After washing and pressing almost 60 fat quarters, I have cut the first strips for B's yellow brick road quilt and my 40 fat quarters quilt.

Six strips from each of the 40 fat quarters - that's 240 strips of fabric! Then four strips from each of B's 20 fat quarters - 80 strips that I've already started to piece together into subunits for the blocks.

B says he likes them so far! And I'm spending the day in quilt class with mine... yum!

Love the colors. Can't wait to see progress.
The bright colors are great! I can't wait to see more pics! I'm trying a toddler quilt, but I took the easy way out - precut strips.
I love the baseball print. Where do you find so many interesting fabrics?
I've been wanting to start trying to quilt. What would you say are the absolute bare minimum essential tools to prevent it from being a total nightmare?
Can't wait to see what these turn out to be!
Thanks, Seanna Lea. B and I searched for yellow prints in a couple of different local quilt shops. I found six or so in each store and several of his favorites (like the baseballs) online at Fabric.com.
Well, Natalie, I'd say you need a rotary cutter (45mm is a standard size), a rotary cutting mat (18" x 24" is probably best to start so you can fit a fat quarter on it), a 6" x 24" quilting ruler and a quarter inch foot for your machine. That'll do you for cutting and piecing. If you want to do the actual quilting (where you stitch the pieced top, the batting and the backing together) yourself, you'll also want a walking foot for your machine. And check a book like Quilting and Color Made Easy or Quilts! Quilts!! Quilts!!! : The Complete Guide to Quiltmaking out of your local library to help you get started. And have fun!! :)
I love the fabric. I also want to say thank you for inspiring me to start quilting. I have made two quilts so far and I am on flickr everyday looking for more inspirations. I may have to try Amy Butler's pattern next.
I can't wait to see them! Loving the baseballs, and numbers and coins with the yellow and orange!
Thank you! I'll be looking forward to this. :)
