sixes everywhere

I spent Saturday in quilt class, working on my 40 fat quarters quilt. We cut our 40 fat quarters into six strips, then picked up one set of strips, combining and sewing them together into subunits. Naturally, we cut the subunits into six strips.

labels are the key to avoiding quilting chaos

Each set of these strips was sewn together to make a super long strip and then the six super long strips were sewn together to make one panel. (One of six panels, of course.)

click to see the whole panel!

The six strips that make up the panel are all the same as they are assembled, but right before they are sewn together, the top squares are off-set so the diagonal occurs. I love seeing the pattern in one fabric change as it travels across and down the panel!

One down. Five more to go.

Wow, I'm loving this 40 fat quarter quilt. I can't wait to see if finished, I'm thinking a trip to my fabric store is going to be happening for me. That panel is looong, what size quilt does this make?

I agree with you that it if fun to see the different fabrics diagonally down the panel. Very cool.

That reminds me of the Circle of Friends Garter Stitch Blanket in Last Minute Knitted Gifts.

Wonderful! I can't wait to see it finished-I know what you mean about seeing the pattern change as you look down the length of the quilt. I love the color combination!

I love how vibrant all of the colors are (I think I love that yellow fabric the best).

Truly a lovely profusion of color.

Wow, I love how this turned out... I would not have been able to see it in my head beforehand and realize it would be so beautiful.

I LOVE that pattern and the fabrics you are using! I am curious about the pattern - is it in a book or do they sell it at the store? I'd love the title of it as I have a collection of fat quarters that would be perfect for that quilt. Thanks!

Those fabrics are great together!
