everything's better with pockets

Wee finally got to wear her Oliver & S Jump Rope Dress today! I had promised her it'd be all done for Tuesday and I did finish the sewing Monday night, but then I realized I had neglected to buy any buttons! I picked some up at the store on Tuesday, sewed them on and then decided on Wednesday that they looked so good, I needed two more for the pockets. This morning when she saw the dress hanging up, she said "that my mushroom dress? with the pockets? is all done?" Yes, yes, and yes!

It's a great fit - mostly because I made the 4 year size for my giant 2 1/2 year-old. I like long dresses on her and there's more length in those cuffed sleeves, so I'm hoping she'll be able to wear it next year too.

And I can't even tell you how much she loves the pockets. By the time it was finished, she'd already come up with plans for exactly what she was going to keep in them (her tiny glow in the dark fairies and two of her big brothers' favorite erasers). I was telling her about the next dress I'm going to make her - a dress with Olivia, her latest cartoon obsession, on it - and she looked super excited and asked, "with pockets on it?!" Okay, with pockets on it.
Next up in the Oliver & S sew-a-thon, the 2+2 blouse.

Alexander Henry's birds have been waiting a while in the stash to become something beautiful and, let me tell you, Oliver & S don't do anything but beautiful.

It looks gorgeous - she looks gorgeous in it. I love the buttons, and the pockets. Were the pockets a pain in the neck to sew?
just had to de-lurk to say--it looks gorgeous! very professional. love the pink buttons and your daughter's lovely curls.
That looks great! Me, too, I am sewing 4year sized dresses for my gigantic 2 1/2 year old. And pockets are very important, I got scolded by my daughter for not having put on pockets (or just one) more than once. :) I need to learn how to make them look as good as yours, though.

Great job on that dress! I thought Wee One looked not so wee! My granddaughter will be 3 in about a month & is just now going into a size 3 but that is just for the length - her waist is 14" - she still weighs only a little over 20 lb. I don't think anyone loves pockets the way that 2-4 year olds do. That is one reason I seem to always have a Wonderful Wallaby OTN. My grands love them so much & the pockets are a large part of it. Actually I'm pretty fond of pockets myself - I just don't feel right when I wear pants that don't have pockets.
Wee looks so pleased with her pockets. You did a lovely job of them and you were right - they did need the buttons. Lovely.
TOO cute! What blessed children you have!
She is beautiful and the dress lovely... perfect match! I love the pocket detail...
So cute! I love making clothes for children too.
I too tend to prefer attire with pocketses. Oh, how I used to long for pockets as a young lass. It was so unfair that boys ALWAYS got pockets.
Adorable dress!
Guess the name 'Wee' won't fit for too much longer will it?
How about 'sWEEt'?
Everything IS better with pockets! I wish more dresses had them.
This is adorable! Is the fabric Jay McCarroll? Very very cute.
