It's beginning to look a lot like Halloween around here! Wee one's butterfly jumpsuit is about halfway done and it's already totally cute and sparkly and butterfly-y. Can't you just see a couple of tiny legs coming out of those ruffly, lacy leg holes? I've still got the sleeves to add (also with ruffles and lace, of course) and then the wings to make. I'm a little intimidated by the wings since they involve stitching down sequin trim and using something called "armature wire," which I hope is just a fancy way of saying craft wire 'cause that's what I bought.
Wee one has a kiddie Halloween party this weekend, so I've only got two more days to finish up. And then one week to make the boys' Mario and Wario suits. It's Halloween crunch time!

halloween oh nine
As long as the craft wire is strong enough to support the wings, you should be good. Armature is typically a reference to structural things. Or to put it more eloquently and clearly: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armature_%28sculpture%29 And that will be one cute butterfly.
Those sequins can be ornery. Best use an extra sharp needle. She will be the hit of any Halloween get together!
I love that you make your kids' halloween costumes. I always had homemade costumes growing up and I remember it so fondly. Halloween wouldn't have been the same if we just went to a store and bought something. When we got older, we had to contruct our own.
Love the costume!
Em (14) has decided she wants to be an Urban Fairy this year. John is crafting these elaborate wings with her that light up. Noah(11) wants to be a Sasquatch. I lucked out and found white faux fur at 50% off at Jo-Anne's and then it was the end of he bolt so I got some more off.
I hope the Sasquatch leaves the Urban Fairy alone as they make their rounds next week!
A sasquatch?! That is awesome! I love it! I've never done faux fur before. Sounds like you and your kids have a great time with Halloween. :)
Thankfully John is also able to sew because I got slammed with the H1N1 virus this week and am not recovering as fast as I'd hoped. Luckily, Sasquatches are not the tidiest of beasts so I can fudge a lot there.
Halloween is one of our favorite evenings and having it on a Saturday this year is cool!
Your butterfly is going to be the cutest on the block! I love your costumes each year.
Can't wait to see the HP exhibit at the Science Museum with my (adult) kids, too!
