santa's little helper

This morning wee helped me cut out pieces to sew up a few bird ornaments from Last-Minute Patchwork + Quilted Gifts.

My knitting and sewing buddy, Johanna, made one of these as a tree ornament for us last year and it was so cute and such a great idea for a holiday gift, I thought I'd make a few for my mother-in-law this year for Christmas. I found some pretty, coordinating holiday colored fabrics at a local quilt shop and today, wee supervised the cutting process. She counted belly parts and body parts, told me which to cut next and lined them all up in a "pattren". A pattern, I might add, that I was only allowed to disturb once she'd gotten in bed for her nap! Tonight, I sew. If she'll let me, that is.

Cute ornaments & I love how wee helps with the pattern! Is she excited about Christmas? I sent baby M the American girl Bitty twins (toddler dolls.) I had wanted the blue eyed blond boy & girl twins because they look just like her & her older brother at her age but they are back ordered until March so I settled for the blond girl & brown haired brown eyed boy (her just older brother). I had mentioned to her what I got but she must have forgotten because when the package came a few days ago, she begged her mommy to let her open it, And she picked it up & said it was heavy. And, of course, when she heard her mom telling me about it on the phone, it led to a whole new round of can I open it, what is it, etc. I will certainly miss spending Christmas with them this year.

I love that book and plan to make a few birds for our windows and for my mom and SIL and a few friends. Although we're Jewish and these won't be ornaments per se. I really love them and thought that a flock of them in my room would be lovely!

I love those birds. I keep planning to make them and I never do. After I finish my labor in Santa's sweatshop I am going to make them this time!

That's just really cute! I really want to make tons of things, but there are only so many hours in the day! These look like a lot of fun even for a sewing novice like me.

Good eye, Vanessa! That's wee's original dolly and baby blanket. They go with her in every room!
