Thanks for the hat pattern! And also thanks for the compliment regarding the Olympics. It was great to be able to host such a fun event for the world!

Maybe you could graph out an intarsia maple leaf?

That's a great idea Libby! You could do the whole hat in the red, working a large white maple leaf on the front center. Then it'd match those awesome mittens the torchbearers and athletes wore! (You'd probably have to start the intarsia before it's time to join the hem, so that'd require whipstitching the hem closed...)

I am making a canadian version for my daughter - it is knit in chunky deep red with a deep hem (12 rows deep - there are two 2-line stripes of white) and I am going to duplicate stitch a white maple leaf on once I am done as I am knitting it in the round and didn't want to have to figure out intarsia in the round). I haven't found a graph of the maple leaf that is distinct enough for my liking yet. Yeah for patriotism whatever country you live in!
PS The red mittens were available at two stores so nearly everyone I know owns a pair and I am in Ontario

I LOVE being Canadian, and always have, but it was fantastic getting the chance to show the world how much we rock. That being said, I love the team Germany gear. I almost bought a hoodie from there, but I wanted to wait until after the olympics.

PS - Everyone who does not own the mittens seems to hate them. I'd rather knit my own!

The USA hat with the moose on it is next on my list. I love that hat.

Those hats are wonderfully cute, and you whipped them up in a very timely fashion! It looks like the merino yarn is a little heavier than a worsted? Like Jan, I have become infatuated with the reindeer/moose hat, but the reindeer legs are giving me trouble - might have to switch temporarily to intarsia. Next up - the red mittens with maple leaf. By the way, one does not have to be Canadian to appreciate those mittens, right?

I have wanted to be Canadian for a long time. My paternal granny was from St John NB & I still have distant relatives in Ontario. When I have visited Canada, I have always been struck by the more laid back atmosphere. Everyone seems so much more relaxed than here. One of my dream trips is the train trip through the Candian Rockies.

I'm so proud to be a Canadian - always have been - but even more so now. We had so much fun just hanging out, soaking up the atmosphere of the Olympics. I'm going through withdrawl now...

Yes, I want to be a Canadian now. And the next time we go to a game against the Maple Leafs or Canadians, I'll be able to sing both anthems!
