miracle wip

After a month of illness, I had my first full pain-free day yesterday and could finally get back to knitting wee's blue twirly skirt. Since I'd made one of these for her before, and used like seven balls of Rowan handknit dk, I was sure that my four balls of Rowan all seasons cotton would never be enough to complete the four tiers necessary to make the skirt really twirly. But as I joined the fourth ball a few rounds into the fourth tier, I began to think it would be a knitting miracle. I had already pulled out some navy handknit dk for the final tier, so when the light blue ran out just before I was to begin the picot edge, I thought it'd be perfect to trim the edge with the darker blue.

It was looking large, so before I bound off the 250 or so stitches and sewed up the hem, I decided to have wee give it a quick try-on this morning. It's even bigger than the one I made her last year, which is still plenty big on her! But with some good, strong elastic, it should stay up high enough for her to wear it this Spring.

And now I'm looking forward to another sunny and healthy day and a new knitting project tomorrow!

I'm glad to hear you are feeling better. The skirt is beautiful and will be even more so with her pretty blue eyes. Hope to see a photo of her modeling it soon.

Blue is my favourite. Hope you don't get blue before you're completely well.

Glad you're feeling better! The skirt is looking great :)

I hope you continue to get better. It is too nice out this spring to be sick (not that it is better in the winter).

Some narrow dark blue ribbon threaded through the YOs and tied in bows in the front would make this twirly skirt even more girlie and different from the pink one.

That's a cute skirt!

I am hoping to get around to knitting one for my niece!

I've got a question about the skirt - it looks to me like you've converted it to be worked in the round instead of flat, is that the case? If so, did you have any troubles with the conversion or was it a simple matter of adding the stitch counts for the front and back together? I'm really interested in making this skirt for my niece but I hate working things flat. Any insights you can provide will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I went to see if I could buy the book...bearfoot knits but they are sold out.
The other day btw, I ordered your book =) though we don't really follow the Potters...I like supporting the blogs I read. =)

as for twirly...sounds like my son and sweatpants, he keeps getting longer, but never wider...

I suppose it could always be heald up with lederhosen ;-P [JK]

MIRACLE WIP. I just got it. Very funny!

I made that skirt for my great-niece last winter. It, too, is a tad big for her so she wears it as a poncho. Her mom said she can't wait to "grow into it" to wear as a skirt.

Erin, I did knit this in the round. I just cast twice the number of stitches and knit every round. No problems with the conversion. I also make a hem at the top for elastic (instead of using a drawstring) and I work a picot edging at the bottom to make it a little more girly.
