roo rules
I just had the pleasure of teaching a new class at my lys: an intarsia sweater from Roo Designs. These designs are so adorable!

They have nearly forty fun motifs, each paired with different neck, edge and sleeve details that make the sweaters even cuter. In our class we had two puppies, a kitty, a truck, a hippo and a penguin. And they all came out great!

This was my sample swatch. I had wee one come in to the store to look through the designs and choose one I would make for her. She gasped when she saw the pretty flowers, then changed her inscrutable little three year-old mind and asked for a tractor. Somehow I managed to direct her away from the tractor and we were able to settle on the puppy. "But," she insisted, "in pink." "With pink ears." "And a pink face." Of course. For class, however, I used leftover blues and greens from my snowflake hat. Looove those big blue ears!
Wee will most likely get her pink puppy on a skirt, since she's so into skirts right now. Oooh, I wish they had a poodle!

These are very cute. I enjoyed my intarsia experience (a gazillion years ago), because it was interesting seeing the picture come together and fascinating how it all tightened up with the finishing work.
I should try another one. I enjoyed it so much!
I think the idea of a pink tractor would have been fantastic! (I say this as a female scientist who wasn't allowed to own mechanical toys as a child, only my brother got to own such things.)
It was so much fun to see what the class brought in as projects yesterday! They were all so adorable! And can I just say "OMG, a pink poodle skirt!!!" That would be fantastic!
Love the link. There are so many cute designs to choose from, which is saying something as I have a little boy and it's typically hard to find "cute" boy designs.
Either Wee One is going to grow up to be the world's most famous knitwear designer or she's going to become a farmer. Either way, what fun!
I second the pink tractor comment/vote.
My brother and I tore up my mom's garden as kids with his Tonka back hoe and my dumpster. This is back when they were made of metal and tough as nails. ~ksp
Don't you love little girls this age? They come up with the most unexpected things to say (do). A story about my granddaughter that her daddy posted to FB: "Came home from work and said hello to M. For fun I asked her if she fought any bears today. She replied without missing a beat, "No, but mom did and she killed it with her bare hands. She broke its back." I can imagine her falling in love with the flowers but then finding the tractor even more interesting. I agree that pink tractor would probably please her no end. That's the great thing about knitting. You can make a sweater with a oink tractor but you'd never be able to buy one!
wow -- thanks for the link. i'd never seen these before! :)
There may be a charted poodle in the book Tap Dancing Lizard. I did a lot of intarsia on my son's sweaters (alomost 2 decades ago). Love the puppy. He would have loved the tractor.
You all are right, of course: a pink tractor would have been cool. Wee's in that phase though where she changes her mind at the last minute to be independent or something and ends up not liking her choice. So I've become very suspicious of last-minute and unexpected changes. She's very happy with the doggie, so it's all good.
I was going to vote for the pink tractor, then saw your response. I have a 4-year-old son who does the same last minute mind-changing. I just thought he was trying to drive me mad! Seeing it as an expression of independence makes more sense.
WoW...Amazing Sweater Designs...BTW is that possible for us to design by our own..ty..
I would say that if you can't find a poodle, that you should draw one or imitate one from a book or a child's drawing. I know people put it on graph paper and work out the pattern. I keep wanting to make just a pocket like that on a short sleeve cardigan, but for my granddaughters it would be their dogs, a toy chihuahua for one and a chocolate lab for the other.
Also, I know your children love legos- Isn't it great that there are now pink legos? The Lego people need to make more women and girl people!
There's nothing wrong with girls wanting a tractor.
How CUTE!! Thanks for the links... :)
Um...why steer her away from a tractor? She's 3. If she wants a tractor she should get it!
