purplicious

If you have a little girl, you've probably heard of Pinkalicious . My daughter loves Pinkalicious because she and Pinkalicious share a love of all things pink. If you don't know the stories, everything Pinkalicious owns is pink. This pretty much makes her my daughter's hero. In fact, it's hard getting my wee one to wear any other color.
So, when a old knitting friend of mine brought me the almost-finished pieces of a beautiful purple sweater that wasn't going to fit her daughter anymore but would fit mine, I knew I would have to enlist the help of Pinkalicious' friend, Purplicious to convince my girl to wear this sweater. (Purplicious likes pink too. She likes it because it is "powerful" and can change blue into purple.)

The sweater is the adorable Blossom sweater by Knitting at Knoon (knit in some fabulous purple Cascade superwash). I actually recommended this sweater to my friend years ago because its subtly lacy, slightly hippy style instantly reminded me of her daughter. Four years later and she presents me with the practically finished sweater and the same comment. And she's right - it really is my girl's style. How perfect! All I had to do was seam it up, knit the collar and ties and block those sweet little picot edges. The finally finished sweater turns out to be the exact right size and the color looks great on wee one!

But, as you can see, she is still not entirely convinced that pink isn't still prettier.

chuck e cheese is a lousy photographer

I got these photos of the boys seven years ago from a little kiddie ride at Chuck E. Cheese's. They only ever agreed to sit on the ride one time and even B couldn't hang out in the seat long enough for the picture to be taken. Boys.
Now that wee one is old enough to enjoy Chuck E. Cheese's, I've been trying to get her in the car for a little sis version of the same picture. But she's been afraid of the big shaky car with the giant mouse in it. (Smart girl, that one.) Until this week, that is, when she went to Chuck E's with some little friends and watched them have a blast on the kiddie rides. She hopped up in the car and finally, I got my picture!

Okay, not awesome, but still, now I've got these three little matched crappy pictures of the kids, oddly similar in quality and size to their ultrasound photos and oddly just as likely to cause me to tear up.
But then she hops in again. Yes.

Crap. Now, I'm on it. I will get a good photo out of this silly ride thing with one of my kids or else! "Come on, sweetie, smile. Smile!"

"Nope, no, look this way, honey."

Ugh. Finally, my friend came up with the brilliant idea of standing in front of the ride and acting like a fool to get wee to laugh continuously at us during the ride. (She's good with the kids, that one.) And....

But Chuck E. saved the best photo for last. Wee and one of her buddies did this one all by themselves while I was ordering the food. She grabbed it out of the machine and ran over to me, overjoyed with their success.

That. is. AWESOME!

roo rules
I just had the pleasure of teaching a new class at my lys: an intarsia sweater from Roo Designs. These designs are so adorable!

They have nearly forty fun motifs, each paired with different neck, edge and sleeve details that make the sweaters even cuter. In our class we had two puppies, a kitty, a truck, a hippo and a penguin. And they all came out great!

This was my sample swatch. I had wee one come in to the store to look through the designs and choose one I would make for her. She gasped when she saw the pretty flowers, then changed her inscrutable little three year-old mind and asked for a tractor. Somehow I managed to direct her away from the tractor and we were able to settle on the puppy. "But," she insisted, "in pink." "With pink ears." "And a pink face." Of course. For class, however, I used leftover blues and greens from my snowflake hat. Looove those big blue ears!
Wee will most likely get her pink puppy on a skirt, since she's so into skirts right now. Oooh, I wish they had a poodle!
