phildar fanatic

Finished the back of my summer top turned funky vest knit-along project.

I'm still feeling guilty that I didn't end up making the summer top I'd planned for the knit-along. Did any of my fellow knit-alongers out there finish the top or have you given up the project as well, or put it away to hibernate until next spring? Perhaps I should rethink the knit-along and open it up to fall Phildar projects, since we all seemed to have moved on?

Speaking of moving on, you all have convinced me to start the filly cardigan next and bring it along with me on vacation. That'll be the second of four planned Phildar projects for me! This funky vest and the striped cardigan, then leigh's sweater and for winter, pinkie. Any more and I think I'll need an intervention!

I am currently knitting the collar of the Phildar top... I should be able to wear it before real fall !
Don't feel guilty... I love your new Phildar projects !

Where do you find those stunning phildar patterns? I love "pinkie" and can't wait to have her in my wardrobe...as soon as I know where she comes from!
Thanks!

Sarah Baker.

Isn't the filly cardigan going to have SO MANY ENDS to weave in? Are you sure that you are ready for that again after Native? The end product will surely be worth it though!

Posted by: Johanna at October 3, 2003 8:54 AM

Yay, Clémence! I saw that you had started the top, but hadn't seen an update on it recently. I'm so glad that you're almost finished. I'm using the same pattern for the vest, just changing the edges to ribbing instead of rolling. Maybe we'll finish around the same time. How fun!

Sarah, the wrap around cardigan is from Phildar's automne catalog. Mine is going to be pink (if you couldn't guess that from the name).

I don't know how many other people are considering knitting the striped cardigan, but I got my yarn in the mail yesterday. Knit-along, anyone?

Posted by: Brynne at October 3, 2003 9:49 AM

Hey Brynne, how 'bout I change the phildar filly knit-along to include any Phildar pattern people are working on this fall? That way we won't limit everyone to knitting the exact same thing. Sound good? Any one else knitting a different Phildar pattern or planning to?

Posted by: alison at October 3, 2003 10:23 AM

Alison, we have the same 3 phildar sweaters on our list--Let me just say, you have fabulous taste! Pinkie is one of my faves but I didn't think I'd get a chance to make it having bought the yarn for "leigh's sweater" (which you now have!). Maybe I'll have to add it to the official list.

Hi Alison.... Are ou getting your Phildar mags via France? Do you know of any place that sells Phildar mags in English? I am trying to find Phildar Tendance Printemps 2003!!!

Posted by: Rose at October 3, 2003 11:13 AM

I smell a pinkie knit-along. I ordered the yarn last week along with the yarn for the giraffe sweater...Ack! My list of things I "wanna knit" is getting really long.

Posted by: sharlyn at October 3, 2003 11:26 AM

You probably said and I just didnt catch it.....but what Phildar pattern book is PINKIE from? it is very cute...............

Posted by: christine at October 3, 2003 12:02 PM

Alright, I'll start a knit-along list for Phildar fillies! Leigh, are you in?

Rose, I do usually get my Phildar mags directly from France (www.phildar.fr). You might try www.knitntyme.com. She has some pattern books in english and you might ask if you don't see the exact one you're looking for. Good luck!

Christine, see my first comment to this entry.

thanks for giving the pinkie location. As I said, I'm a complete knitting novice and have a couple other questions, which I'm sure you've heard before, so I apologize for the repeats. If I order the Phildar book, is the pattern in there? Also, how do you read the french? Are the patterns listed in english as well?
Thanks so much, I appreciate the help!
Sarah.

Sarah, the pattern is in the magazine. If you need an english translation, you need to get the magazine from an english speaking land, which means Canada since Phildar generally isn't available in America. So try www.knitntyme.com for the english pattern book.

Alison, I love Phildar patterns. Using those patterns just shows good taste. I've got the patterns from France before and aren't hard to follow even if you don't know French. Though, I followed your link and bought the latest one from the Canadian company, so it may be in English, huh? Latest project looks great.

I'm a wacko, I'll be knitting the "leigh" sweater. Woo-hoo for knit-alongs! Alison, you're the best :).

Posted by: Sharlyn at October 3, 2003 12:43 PM

Ha! Sign me up for the Phildar "filly". I just received my yarn two days ago!!! This is just the inspiration I need to start it now. I'm still working on the Becky's wanna-bes and will continue to do so off and on.

Posted by: MKaye at October 3, 2003 1:03 PM

Alison, you know it! Count me in! Hmmm, now which one to pick? Should I go with Pinky or Filly? If I'm being practical, I should pick Filly since I already have the yarn for that, but Pinky could be fun to shop for, no?

Posted by: Leigh at October 3, 2003 2:21 PM

Count me in for Phildar filly... I'll be making some baby items out of the newest Tricotez Calin as soon as it arrives. (Unless baby-type filly doesn't count!)

Alison, can I join your filly knit-along?

I started the cardigan last week. I'm about halfway through the back and about to start the armhole shaping. I've been posting updates on my new blog, Purlwise.

Here's the link to the pattern in case anyone needs it.

heya Alison,

feel free to add me to the list of phildar stuff! I have the yarn for that pink fluffy muppety sweater that Becky knit awhile back (and I think she gave it to someone else, not sure), and as soon as I get done with kid stuff/the becky sweater, I'm going to pull that stuff out and get to it (the stuff has been marinating in my stash for over a year now, so I might as well get to it!)

Posted by: kim at October 4, 2003 3:53 AM

Adding three more to the list - yippee! Becky, of course kiddie stuff counts. I totally forgot, I've got some phildar kiddie things planned as well. I guess it IS intervention time! ;0)

Melinda, thanks for the link to the pattern. I saw that they took it down from their main site. Good to know that the pattern is still there. Better download it now fillies, before they remove it!

Hey Alison,

Add me in on the phildar knitalong--I decided to do Filly :-)

Posted by: Leigh at October 4, 2003 8:42 AM

My Phildar theory: its hard to get and French, therefore we want it more. Whaddya think?

I see that I'm already on the Wanna-be list...so efficient you are. My Pumpkin Spice cardie is a Phildar pattern but not Phildar yarn. Is that Filly-able?

Posted by: claudia at October 4, 2003 1:31 PM

Oh yeah, Claudia. I forgot that you were doing that one from the essentials catalog. You're in, filly!

Re: why we love Phildar... I just love their patterns. They're well written and the styles are great (how can you not love that kids giraffe jacket?!). And the yarns are very cool as well. The playing hard to get thing is a little annoying, but when you're really in love, you find a way. ;0)

Posted by: alison at October 4, 2003 2:00 PM

WOW! Look at all this PHILDAR fun. Hope I can join in ;-)

Posted by: Becky at October 5, 2003 9:09 AM

I've just got the collar of the summer top to sew on, and some ends to weave in, but the Licorne didn't treat me well. :(
