Santa came a little early to our house, bringing us a new cedar chest! Now all my hand-knitted (and favorite store-bought) sweaters can live at the foot of the bed surrounded by cedar.
Luckies! We don't have much closet space (heck, no one in Boston does), so my sweaters were stuffed in the back of various closets just waiting to be found by moths. And others were hanging on hangers (say it isn't so!) because there simply wasn't any more horizontal space left. But now they are happy.
My boys are happy too. The cedar chest came in a big ol' box that screamed to be made into a playhouse for them. Here they are going in and out a little door and here they're using a window.

a christmas story
Those photos of the boys playing in the box are priceless! We've got some video camera footage of Brooke playing in an empty box when she was about 18 months old, it kept her quiet for AGES. What is it about kids and empty boxes?
When I was little, I had a book about a boy who had a box and a piece of rope and used them to go on all sorts of imaginary adventures. I wanted to have a big box like that. Now, I would like to have a big book like your cedar chest.
Awesome chest! No one has much closet space here in Alexandria, VA. Those darn old houses! ;) So we bought an armoire for the husband recently, and turned his closet (narrow and shallow!) into a shelf heaven for sweaters!
Kids always seem to love boxes! The fab imagination they have!
My mother bought me a cedar chest for high school graduation. It is one of those gifts you treasure forever. If I keep knitting sweaters, though, I'm going to need ten more. ;) Yay for Santa coming early! I'm all for that! :)
I remember the boxes like that at my daycare, if you were good, you got to have nap time in one!
Cute guys! Never mind the closet space. What about those outrageous house prices? We may be moving to the area. I knew prices were high but...
That cedar chest is lovely [yay, Santa!], but what I *really* love is the photo of your boys playing in that box. Awwwwwwwwwww!
Alison, great box. I hear you about the end of nap time. It now takes Cate 1.5 hours from the time we get into her room till she starts snoring and then the nap only lasts 45 minutes. That is when we get one at all. Naps aren't for the babies, their for the mommies! I look back longingly on the two nap a day period, where I had long stretches of knitting, shower and eating time.
i have cedar closet that needs to be brought to my apartment....it is a beautiful piece of furniture that has been in my family for years.
and as for playing in boxes, when i was a little girl, the most favorite toy on the block was an empty refrigerator box. we would make a clubhouse in it and adorn it with drawings inside and out!! long live the box clubhouse!!
hope the hand is feeling better.
Cyndy, Massachussetts has either the second or third highest housing prices in the country, believe it or not. Good luck house hunting!
Amy, I feel for you. Glad to hear that I'm not alone. :)
Elizabeth, my hand is all better now. It wasn't a knitting injury at all, just a big bruise from my boisterous boys!
Beautiful cedar chest.
Even more beautiful boys - great pictures of them having fun.
I want a daily nap. ! :0)
Lucky you! (I feel your pain -- we don't have ANY closets OR CUPBOARDS in our apartment in Taipei. None. Can you believe it? Not even in the kitchen.)
Big boxes are the best! Your boys are so cute.
What a lovely chest! Finally, your beautiful sweaters get the resting place they deserve. Looks like the boys are keeping you busy. I hear you on the knitting brownout. Things are slowing down here b/c of lots of work related travel but I did manage to finish two gifts over the weekend.
