Posted by: Carrie at April 2, 2004 9:10 AM

Greetings! I have come here by way of Knitty.com, and I just wanted to tell you that your Rosebud pattern is simply beautiful. Your description of it is equally beautiful.

I have two sons, my youngest just turned one and my oldest turns three in a week. For the most part, I really loved being pregnant, I really loved a lot of my maternity clothes, and many of my maternity clothes actually fit and flattered my body more so than any other clothing had before, which was just too funny. At any rate, I just wanted to thank you for the pattern, which looks like it's made to flatter a real woman's body, and for your beautiful words about it. It strikes me as very courageous to stand up in such a public forum and say something so positive about your pregnant body. I say positive things about pregnancy all the time, but I find myself in a minority there. It shouldn't be so rare, but it is.

You're an inspiration.

Posted by: Cordelia at April 2, 2004 9:33 AM

OMG Alison, you ROCK! Your design is so beautiful and impressive.

Posted by: Bliss at April 2, 2004 9:52 AM

Simply divine. (Although I have to say that the frequent use of the word "pregnancy" in the pattern led me to wonder if there was something you'd been meaning to tell us... but then I remembered that YOU HAVE TWIN TWO-YEAR-OLD BOYS.)

Posted by: shannon at April 2, 2004 9:52 AM

I absolutely love this, Alison. It'll be perfect for my preggers self - nice and roomy.

Posted by: peggy at April 2, 2004 9:59 AM

Incredible sweater Alison! What a great idea for the shape.

I'm putting it on the top of my list of sweaters to make.

Posted by: Leigh at April 2, 2004 12:39 PM

Love your newest pattern design. I am all going hmm what yarn do I have in stock to make that :)

Posted by: Amy at April 2, 2004 12:56 PM

Great design Alison. The sweater is beautiful, and is definitely being added to my list to make.

Posted by: Annie at April 2, 2004 1:01 PM

Alison that is just gorgeous. I love the sleeves. Reminds me of "leg of mutton" sleeves that were the fashion when I was a young teen. It looks so wonderful on you too. I am so in love with it!

Posted by: Jackie at April 2, 2004 1:27 PM

I can lurk here no more -- Rosebud is absolutely beautiful! I caught my breath when I saw it. Congratulations!

I've been reading your blog for awhile - but I just had to comment and say how much I love Rosebud - it's going right into my "soon to be knit pile" Beautiful!

Posted by: jessie at April 2, 2004 1:50 PM

I LIKE it...it's one of the ones I've saved already. :-) Hey, and I'll have an Spring Fling FO by tomorrow....

Posted by: Eklectika at April 2, 2004 2:02 PM

i love the sweater
I am 5 months pregnant but don't think I would finish it before the baby's arrival!!!
I still am amazed at how much knitting you get done with those cute twins of yours!!!
I am a twin and I absolutley love it!!!

Posted by: joy at April 2, 2004 2:12 PM

I have a theory.
YOU are a twin, right? That's why you are one of the most prolific knitters I know, and the mom of two beautiful boys.
Your design is marvelous, and what a lovely tank it WOULD make.
Meanwhile: Shifted projects for Spring Fling. Making the boy a stripey stripey sweater. With STARS!!! as he says. closing in on second sleeve, hopefully done by Monday. Then you can "Red me", baby.
Congrats again on your publication. How happy are you? Shall I tell Melanie to expect your call?

Posted by: julia at April 2, 2004 3:31 PM

Pretty! Expect an e-mail from me- I can't wait to photoshop your photo and see what Arwen would look like in that sweater. :)
Oh, the sleeves!!!!!!!
*swoon*

Posted by: Sarah Elizabeth at April 2, 2004 4:17 PM

I love this sweater. If I didn't already have too much on my plate, I'd snatch up some yarn and try my hand at it. The style is perfect! It looks so comfy yet elegant. It may not be till next spring, but I will eventually knit rosebud. It's beautiful.

Posted by: Rayne at April 2, 2004 4:32 PM

You sneak! I read all the time and have no idea how you could find the time to design and knit such a lovely sweater. You're so prolific! I'm extra excited because I have a bag of wool cotton (thank you ebay) and I'm seeing a tank/short sleeved version of your beautiful sweater in my future.

Posted by: Michelle at April 2, 2004 4:49 PM

Alison, you look really beautiful wearing that sweater. Congratulations on being published!

Posted by: claudia at April 2, 2004 6:21 PM

Congratulations, Alison. It looks lovely.

I love love love this sweater. I can't wait to make it. Thanks for sharing this awesome pattern with the world!

Posted by: stacy at April 3, 2004 7:01 AM

Great sweater! I love it. And in one of my favorite colors too!

Posted by: froggy at April 3, 2004 1:48 PM

Thanks so much everyone for stopping by and letting me know that you like the pattern. I'm so excited to hear that lots of you might be making it! Sounds like several of you are interested in making a tank version. I've got that on my list of summer knitting too! And a couple are even thinking of Rosebud as real maternity wear. Neat! I'll try to come up with some suggestions for upsizing the front to accomodate a pregnant belly and let you know.

Thanks again for all the kind words! I'm just flabbergasted by the great response. Thank you, thank you. :)

Posted by: alison at April 3, 2004 2:54 PM

wow, another beautiful pattern! and you look gorgeous in it. i think i'm becoming an alison groupie lol. what beautiful lines! and the story behind the inspiration is just great.

btw, i'm planning to pick up tricot again real soon, although i think i'm going to change its colors. not sure what yet, but the ones i picked just aren't doing anything for me and i think that's why i've been letting it languish. now that the weather's getting more mild i really want to wear it!

Posted by: jody at April 3, 2004 3:31 PM

Love it. Really. I am going to go drink coffee and stand in awe.

Posted by: Stephanie at April 4, 2004 1:53 PM

Its fabulous! You are an inspiration and such talent.

Posted by: Meredith at April 4, 2004 4:32 PM

The sweater is beautiful. I'm 7 mos now and am in need for summer things. I might try and make a short-sleeved version of your sweater, but yours is just too pretty to change in any way.

Posted by: Stacy at April 4, 2004 7:50 PM

Beautiful design! I'm 3 months pregnant and would love to make this as both the tank and long sleeved versions- should have plenty of time to get lots of wear out of it :)

Thanks so much for a great design!

Posted by: Sara at April 5, 2004 2:32 PM

Congratulations on a lovely design. You are really blossoming as a designer. ;)

Posted by: michelle at April 5, 2004 3:08 PM

Add me to the list of people planning to make it as a maternity top! Seeing as I'm just about three months pregnant now, I'm going to try a short-sleeved version for the summer months. :)

It's so pretty, and here I was feeling so down about not being able to knit anything for myself for the next several months! Thank you for publishing such a lovely pattern!

(Oh, and I was just going to size it a bit bigger and trust in the bell shaping and the stretchy fabric to accommodate the belly - won't that work?)

Posted by: Sarah at April 5, 2004 3:47 PM

I've been meaning to head over to the blue blog and compliment you on your beautiful design for some time - so here I am. Congrats, it is so pretty! I'm holding out on making it until I have a "bud" in the oven and need some inspiration - I know this design will provide it.
