LD
Finally I'm LD-ing-along. Yes, my linen drape project (maggie) is on the needles.

I've only just begun and I've already tossed the pattern aside in order to make up my own numbers. I did a lovely gauge swatch, got gauge with 3.25mm needles and then saw the first few inches of the top come out way too small. A slight change in gauge was only part of the problem though. The real problem is that the top is so short. I'd prefer something that covers the, um, stretch marks, you know. So I'm lengthening the top and that means making it a bit wider as well. So it's another experiment in sizing.
Sizing aside, I'm really enjoying the linen drape. It certainly does like to split, but by knitting a bit more carefully, I've been able to keep that to a minimum. Otherwise it's knitting up evenly and feels good in my hands. I'm knitting this project along with my advanced beginning knitting students (five weeks to a baby sweater!), so I'm hoping that I can finish her up in time to wear at the beginning of summer. If the last remaining skeins of linen drape are still at my LYS when I'm done, I may have to get a few more. Heh, heh.

Ooh. I love the color! It's so summery!
I love experiments in sizing, and routinely add an inch or two to stuff. Looking forward to it, I love that colour btw.
Hi Alison!
I've been thinking about ordering the pattern for "maggie", since I have some yarn I think just might be the right for it... but I would like to know the gauge before I order, in case the gauge doesn't fit at all...?

Lovely color and a great pattern too. I better get ready to cast on as well. Thanks for the reminder.
I am only a little jealous that you got guage on 3.5's, since I'm on 3mm's. But can I tell you a secret? When faced with a choice between casting on for the insomnia sweater, and casting on for the linen drape, do you know which one I chose?
yeah. ::sheepish grin:: I'm in love.
What a beautiful shade of blue, Alison! I think I am going to make Arabella from Rowan 35 with my Linen Drape. Haven't cast on yet, but maybe soon. We've had such hot weather, Linen Drape is just the thing.....
Looks wonderful, Alison! Hope the math isn't a pain and that you continue to enjoy the yarn. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing a lengthened Maggie. I really love its sleeves -- quick and cute!
Linen Drape is one of my all time favorite yarns. Getting past the splitting issue is completely worth it because the finished fabric is drapey and lineny and absolutely lovely. Wish they hadn't discontinued this yarn. It takes me a while to finish a project, but it's always worth the wait...
happy knitting!

I do love that color. That reminds me that I have yarn at home to make this pattern as well :)
I'm LD'ing at last too, and I agree that as long as you go carefully, it doesn't split too much. It sure does feel rough on the fingers at times though!
If my blog weren't temporarily defunct, I could show everyone that I have about 1/2 of the "Stripes-Go-Round" from the current Interweave done. I changed the striping just a bit. Linen Drape is a good substitute for the hemp yarn the pattern called for.
Oh Heidi, you should not have mentioned that! I love that pattern and the skeins of LD I'm lusting after at my LYS are in two different shades of green. Too tempting!! I think you just talked me into it. :)
