here knitty, knitty

check it out!

Yes, I finally finished my leftovers vest. I even made a second one (during my vacation this fall) with some awesome pastel yarn oddballs that I first saw for sale at a local yarn mecca back in January 2003. I had originally talked myself out of buying them and Kerstin ended up picking them up. She hadn't started blogging back then and we'd never met, but she left a comment to my post, because she recognized that the yarn I passed up was the yarn she'd bought. A year later and she was a knitblogging star, was coming to our weekly knitting group, the Knitsmiths, and despite a few well-intentioned attempts, still hadn't gotten that yarn to work for her. So she gave it to me. Yes, Kerstin is that nice. But what am I to do with single skeins in different colors, I asked myself. Hey, I answered myself, don't I have a vest lying around nearly finished with the same m.o.? Well, let's just have another one of those.

While I'm waiting for the next batch of leftovers to fall into my lap, I'm eyeing the lovely colors of elann.com's Peruvian Highland Wool and thinking, it doesn't technically have to be leftovers, right? It is Christmas, after all!

Wow! I love your vests, in the two different sets of colors. Thanks so much about posting the link to the new knitty--the email notification hasn't been sent out yet, I don't think--because it's revived me in my late night studying. I really, really, really like this issue, tons of really cool looking patterns! Sorry that I haven't been able to make it to the Knitsmiths lately, I get up late on Sunday and then don't have enough done by late afternoon to justify going out :( I did finish knitting Tricot awhile back though! Need to hunt down a zipper and learn how to put that in. I was going to run out of pink yarn so I reversed the colors for th front...it looks really cool, actually :) Thanks for all your great patterns!

great vest alison. congrats on your pattern which will be perfect as everyone will have lots of leftover yarn after all this christmas knitting. not that we don't have leftovers already, hehe.

Your vest is the best thing about winter Knitty. I especially like the pastel one! Congratulations!

Your trans continental seaming party has resulted in me finishing my oldest ufo. 13 years, how is it possible. :-O And I finished it in just two evenings.

Result: No more bad feelings about the unfinished baby sweater, and hopefully a happy and warm baby niece on Iceland.

Love this pattern! I have purchased so many single colors of the Elann.com yarn and have been wondering what the heck to do with them... this vest would be perfect. Thank you! :)

There's a word we used to use in our late teens/early 20's, "va", meaning "va-va-va-voom, or so darned cool that the word 'cool' just doesn't describe it".

Alison, you and that vest are totally va.

Another great pattern...the possibilities boggle the mind.

*eyes oddball stash hungrily*

(And now we know what's inside your fridge!)

I was just thrilled when I saw you and your pattern in Knitty!

The pastel vest is especially yummy.

Just the beautiful knitting we've come to expect from you!

Congrats Alison!

Your vests are the best thing in this issue of Knitty! I did like that game with the bowls. Pretty cool. (what is up with the knitted uterus? are we that desperate for "new" and "creative" things? Shall we do a knitted penis next? Why not, really.) I think that on my quest to rid myself of odds and ends, I may end up making one or more of these vests. Great socks too, by the way. But then, I'm admittedly obsessed with them.

Great vest! I'll admit that it took about an hour for the leftover/fridge connection to dawn on me :-). Clever (you...not me)!

Thanks everyone!

How great is this new Knitty issue?! I haven't even had time to look at the articles, but I so have to make Belle Epoque. Tempting is also very tempting, of course. Everything Stephanie creates is incredible, so no surprise that her Cathode rocks. And how fabulous is Vickie Howell's bag?! Love the cabled and the striped patterns too, of course. Aaack, Knitty overload!!!!

Alison, you are amazing. Love what you did with the "oddballs." Congratulations on another great pattern!

Posted by: Kerstin at December 6, 2004 11:55 AM

great vest.I was wondering if you were doing a knit-along for this pattern*wink*

Posted by: cara at December 6, 2004 1:46 PM

Alison, I love your blog. Congrats on your pattern in Knitty - I didn't even know the new one was out and when I saw your pattern, well, I was so excited because I felt like it was someone I knew! Weird, huh?
So Glueckwuensch zur Arbeit gut gemacht!

I love your leftovers vest so much! And the pictures in front of the fridge are cute. I'm actually planning to cast on for this as soon as I get home this afternoon.

Great pattern **doing alittle jig** because a vest is my "next knit up" and now I found the one I will do.

Posted by: Cindy at December 6, 2004 4:28 PM

What a great idea! Quite fashion forward and I'm digging your white pants!

Posted by: Lynn at December 6, 2004 7:20 PM

Hi, Love your great vest, I should knit it!! In my case, it would be some kid Classic and some Filatura di Crosa... Conglat for Knitty!

Posted by: Trico at December 6, 2004 9:35 PM

Did you coordinate the contents of your fridge to go with your vest? Great pics!

Posted by: Dava at December 7, 2004 9:15 AM

I LIKE the colour combos!

Posted by: valentina at December 8, 2004 6:52 AM

Alison, I LOVE your pattern! I've already got it printed and can't wait to make one. YAY for great stuff to do with leftovers!

Posted by: Carrie at December 9, 2004 2:21 PM

I love your pattern. I've actually been searching for a vest pattern that's shaped and fitted without button fronts, so yours was like Kismet or something. I will knit this with leftovers. Thank yoooo!
