caution: any elves found discussing Amazing Race around the water cooler instead of knitting will be in big trouble

There's still sewing to be done on these mini-weasleys and one more left to make.

And the last pair of socks only has one heel so far.

Two days until they've all got to go in the mail. Let's go people!

I've really started watching the Amazing Race this season and I think John should be disqualified. Why is that woman married to him? The mini Weasleys are adorable!

Go! Go! Go!

Aaaargh . . . I've resisted but now I must make some mini Weasleys.

Have been lurking for some time -- I absolutely love your knitting (those giraffe sweaters are something else, and I'm dying to make the Pop sweater -- not to mention the leftover vest).

I have a question for you re: the mini Weasleys. Did you use a specific pattern for those, or did you make it up? I have patterns from Weekend Knitting and Last Minute Knitted gifts, I'm wondering whether either of those would suffice for making the mini Weasleys, which I love.

Regards,
Alison A.

boy your socks are looking good!! Just curious, what size dpn are you using and how many sts are you casting on? I've tried socks, and they just aren't working out...sigh.

Hello--

Your socks all look great! Would you please describe what you do at the point where the heel is done and you're ready to knit all the stitches again, to avoid the hole that develops there? I usually have a problem there.

(I can discuss The Amazing Race and knit at the same time, so I'll just comment that I'm sorry to see Don and Mary Jean go, though I think they were somewhat relieved. Though I don't yet have a team I am rooting for to win, I really, really hope that Freddy and Kendra do NOT. I didn't care for her whiny comments about conditions in Africa.)

Go Alison!

Amazing Race is stockinette time knittin'!

What do you think of this season's batch of people? I'm sort of disappointed in them.

Nice short row heel, Alison!

okay, can't stay at the water cooler all day (as much as I'd like to) I'm headed back to my "desk" now...

You're in the final stretch -- yahoo! The duplicate stitch on the tweed, small guage mini sweaters would have killed my eyesight!

Hey everyone!

Re mini-weasleys: I'm using the pattern from Last Minute Gifts, just doing it in one color and duplicate stitching the letters on afterward. I LOVE the pattern!

Re socks: I'm using Priscilla Gibson Roberts' Dream Socks pattern which has the short rows being made with yarn overs and not wraps. This calls for K2tog and K3tog to complete the short rows and leaves you with extra yarn overs at the very edges to knit together with instep stitches, instead of having gaps near the instep stitches. It's really a good pattern. It's available for subscribers at the Interweave Knits website and also in her sock book.

Re Amazing Race: Hate the woman who bitched and moaned about Africa. She was all excited when it first said to go to Africa and I'm thinking, oh, girlie, this is Amazing Race Africa, not Survivor Africa. It's not going to be a safari trip! It's going to be hard stuff to see and hard stuff to do. She has got to go. My faves are Gus and Hera. I love the big guy - I'm calling him Big Daddy. Now that Don and Mary Jean are gone, I really want him to win! And I'm very much hoping that Victoria will step up and give that Jonathan a huge smack in the face. What an a**!

Whoops, here comes Santa, gotta go. ;0)

From a lurker....I'm knitting Christmas socks too and had to get a heel turned last night before the race started, so it would be all stockinette during the show! (Love those heels on your socks, thanks for the pattern info.)

I loved Don and Mary Jean, I thought she was the most beautiful older woman I had ever seen. They seemed to be so in love and adventurous! There are 2 couples that seem to be nice to each other, but they hardly ever show them.

Back to knitting, I've got 3 pair of socks, a poncho for mom (already started) and a Santa hat for 5 mo old baby to go.....

Knit on!

because the man blatently beats his wife? is that why we can't discuss it?

Posted by: leya at December 15, 2004 3:38 PM

Wow that is one nice looking sock heel! You are doing great with your gift knitting, it is helping to push me on as well. thanks!

i'm rooting for gus and hera too. i thought kendra's obnoxiousness was going to be my "ugh" moment for the episode, but i was struck speechless by jonathan at the end. the mini-weasleys are just so adorable!

Posted by: mrspilkington at December 15, 2004 4:20 PM

when phil said to jonathan...i think you'd better go talk to victoria...his look was priceless. even he is disgusted with jonathan.

so my 4-6 hour sweater from last minute knitted gifts is a nightmare...forgot to check the web site for corrections...of which there are many...so i'm basically ripping back to the beginning of the yoke...where the mistakes in the pattern began...at least i'll have it on sunday to be photographed...lb

Posted by: lisa b at December 15, 2004 5:54 PM

That look on Phil's face cracked me up, too. I certainly hope that when John and Victoria got back to the US, she found herself a good lawyer and filed for a divorce and a restraining order. Last season, Colin was a little on the controlling side with Christie sometimes, but jeez, John makes him look like Mother Theresa.

I haven't been to your blog for a while Alison, but now I get to play catch up! Whee!

All my Christmas knitting is easy this year, the most complicated things are the mittens, and even those are only made complicated by the fact that I am using totally different yarn than the pattern uses, so I'm basically making up the pattern as I go. It's a little mitten, so it's easy to frog if I mess up. Maybe next year I'll attempt socks.

I feel personally taunted by that beautiful heel ;-)
