june 21, 2005

tuesday is knitalong day

And the sockapal-2-za begins. Let the updates roll! We're seven days in and I've barely managed to subscribe to your blogs on Bloglines. If you have a blog but not an RSS feed, be sure that you let me know when you've got a sock update, so I won't miss it! And even if you do, it would help if you let me know.

Okay, don't freak out, but Angela is already done with her lovely blue/green variegated socks in a "summery lace" pattern. (You can see the colors better and get a link to the pattern in this post.) Our first finished sock pal socks - unbelievable!

Elsewhere, Grumperina has been hard at work experimenting with some lovely variegated yarn. (And by George, I think she's finally got it!) Bliss is terribly excited about the red, lace socks she making for her pal. Debi has started some sunny socks for her pal. Jillz has started some fun, stripey socks. Andrea has sent in a picture of the fabulous Koigu socks she's begun. Linda has also started a Koigu sock for her pal. And Karen too is going the Koigu route. Illana has started her socks in hand-dyed merino. And one of the Jennifers promises there will be a sock update on her blog today! (PS - There are so many Jennifers in the Sockapal-2-za that she's making a Jennifer Blog Ring. Isn't that cool?!)

In the preparation stages are: Tiffany, who has handpainted yarn for her pal. Tania, who has decided that her pal would like socks in hot pink Cashsoft. Wowza! Anna, who is considering some lovely Lorna's Laces and Knitty's Tangled Garden sock pattern. Mini, who chose some very bright Lorna's Laces (check out her newly finished top too!). Annemarie, who will be making socks out of Patons Grace (neat idea!). Arian, who has picked out some fiery-colored Meilenweit. Rebekkah, who has chosen beautiful Opal handpainted. Carrie, who is going with Koigu (mmmm.... more..... koiguuuuu.....). Mandy, who's considering some pretty pretty No No Kitty yarn for her sock pal. Purly Whites, who even had a little survey to decide what yarn to use. And Jenny, who has posted a list of her preferences on her blog to help her pal make the perfect socks for her! This is so cool to see everyone trying out all these fabulous sock yarns.

And I'm thinking of red socks. Really, Red Sox red socks (like in their logo). How 'bout that?!

Hey, for all of you who said you'd be open to getting some crocheted socks, check out all these awesome socks that Andrea, one of our crocheters, has made.

Wow. Someone's already done? I'm impressed. I promise to have an update for next week -- yarn, needles and pattern already set. I just need to cast-on and I'll be off.

Of course, now I'm getting all these new ideas . . . :)

I'm making Red Sox right now! (Not for my pal, for me.) Cascade Fixation is working out perfectly for them--they are RED!

Posted by: Ashley at June 21, 2005 9:39 AM

All that linking makes me dizzy! Seriously, how long did that take you?!

Posted by: Lauren at June 21, 2005 9:47 AM

alison- you are remarkable - i love all the links to the socks in progress! and i thought i read alot of blogs. now MORE to add to my growing list! thanks!

So, is it wrong to make a list of all the Sockapal2zers, and cross off the names of those who I know are not knitting for me, based on the updates? I'm so tempted, but I think I'll resist.

I'm really inspired to cast on for my sock pal socks, though. Maybe after I finish a sock for me, as that sock is currently on the needles I want to use for my sock pal's socks...

I've been thinking about making myself a pair of Red Sox socks, too. (Yay - another excuse to buy yarn.) I'm flabberghasted by the Socka who's already done with her pal socks. I've barely even begun to think about mine. So many socks, so little time... :)

Glad you're feeling better! Even though I'm not participating, it's so much fun looking at all the socks in the works (like Christmas gift making early)! Lots of work for you, but we all sure appreciate it!

Posted by: Leslie at June 21, 2005 10:16 AM

I just posted a photo of my socks in progress. They're coming along nicely.

Posted by: Jessica at June 21, 2005 10:36 AM

Glad to see you are feeling better! My 9yo has a good many of Shel's poems memorized. Have a stellar day!

Posted by: Phoebe at June 21, 2005 10:42 AM

Look at all those sockers go! I need to try some socks made with Koigu. I made a lacy scarf out of it, but all the socks I see make me crazy, obsessive and I just have to have more Koigu!

Posted by: Dani at June 21, 2005 10:46 AM

I started my socks and will post about it today.

I am, as usual, impressed and wowwed by the way you are able to bring so many people together in such an organized way!

Posted by: Melanie at June 21, 2005 11:07 AM

i really hope you're feeling better and not trying to do all this feeling grotty! you're amazing, how much work you put into all this, so generous with your blog and time. now i'm going to order that lorna's. woohoo!

Posted by: anna at June 21, 2005 11:27 AM

noooo I wanted to be the first one done! :) You are good with keeping up! I am amazed that you found all of us and our socks! Can't wait to see your red socks- I had to make some for my boyfriend who is a HUGE red sox fan. I used cascade fixation but I wouldn't recommend it because he wore them with sneakers and they rubbed on his feet and made the back of his heel bleed and scrape :( sorry for such a sad story.

I've since moved my blog from mommaknit.blogspot.com to http://www.atypicalmom.com... stop by and subscribe to the new feed! By the way, I'm the Liz who formerly blogged at "what's the name of that blog?"

Just sayin' ;)

Posted by: Liz at June 21, 2005 12:56 PM

Wow - finished socks already? Just have a few rows of ribbing done here :-P

Posted by: Kathy at June 21, 2005 1:08 PM

someone already finished their socks? and I thought I was ahead because I already started - I am so impressed!

Posted by: Lu at June 21, 2005 1:15 PM

I've just finished my sock-update for today. Picture included. ;-) Have a nice afternoon.

Posted by: Alexandra at June 21, 2005 1:51 PM

I feel like such a slug! I can say that I've got a pattern book on order and I think I've picked out the yarn. Now I just have to wait for payday and then I'm good to go.

This is so much fun. Thanks Alison for managing all this. It must sometimes feel like herding cats.

good grief...i'd forgotten tuesday was update day :o|

don't like to say too much re: my socks-in-progress for fear of giving myself away (if i do say so myself i found ideal yarn for my pal *grin*), but yarn was purchased the very night of the distribution of names, and the first one is on the needles!

i have a sneaking suspicion i'm going to have to start a blog before this is over ;o)

Thanks! I love footies and have only knit the Fast Florida Footies with stretchy cotton (Fixation and the like).

These look super comfy.

Posted by: Susan at June 21, 2005 4:21 PM

Okies so I'm a complete noob... what is an RSS feed? *laugh* Hope that isn't an uber silly question!

I can't believe someone is finished already! I thought I was ahead of the game since I'd alerady bought my yarn! :) Guess I should hop to it!

Posted by: Lisa P at June 22, 2005 12:16 AM

Thanks so much for posting the sock pattern. It came along at just the right time for me! I'll be starting work on some wee socks shortly!

Posted by: Noo at June 22, 2005 4:31 AM

Glad you're feeling better. Thanks for your cute footie pattern and links to others.

But - gah! - I'm freaking out! Someone is finished!! I'm still reading my Sockapal's blog and pondering what yarn to buy.

Posted by: Ina at June 22, 2005 8:46 PM

Excellent! I so look forward to making these. Even though I go sockless from May to October. Perhaps just the thing for cool nights in an air conditioned bedroom though.

Thank you for posting the pattern!

Posted by: Rose at June 23, 2005 6:39 AM

I missed it! I didn't even know it was happening, and I found it a week after it started. I'm so upset. Maybe next time.

Posted by: Ellie at June 23, 2005 8:46 AM

I love watching everyones sock progress. I am having a hard time putting my socks down. I am about to turn my heels.

Happy knitting everyone!

Alison ~ your Katy sweater is coming along swimmingly :D
I love the colour!

I have a bloglines sub button on my blog, but it doesn't seem to pick me up very well. It seems to take hours to show up. Oh well. I will have a pic of my sock (I finally stopped frogging...lol) tonight, hopefully in time for tomorrow!
