and another thing

I've been neglecting all other things* to get these two things finished. Instead of completely finishing the Thing One shirt, I chose to put it aside once I was past the intarsia and start working on Thing Two.

Now that both fronts are well underway, I feel like I'm much closer to being done. The second one is actually coming out better than the first. My hands seem to have found the right rhythm and tension with this pattern and yarn. I'm not having to tug on stitches here and there to even them out quite as much. I guess being first has its disadvantages as well. I wonder if my son B (first born, Thing One, and always running ahead of the rest of us) will ever learn that.

* Like my email. Sorry if you've written me recently. I'm trying to catch-up today. To my Sockapal2zaer Sock Saviors: I have found matches for all the pals I wrote to you about and sent the info to those who will be knitting make-up socks. If you didn't hear from me, let me say "thank you, thank you, thank you!" for offering to be a sock savior. I will definitely keep you on the list for the next batch of pals who need sock saviors.

Truly one-of-a-kind and so on target for your twins! I can hardly wait to see the finished costumes!

Looks great! I haven't even started on my son's costume - but I'm not knitting it, so I'm not worried (just yet).

BTW, I'm in the Weasley along and wanted to give you an update on my progress (since I haven't done that). I'm doing a sweater for my son in the round and figured out how to do intarsia in the round yesterday at my LYS, but I don't know if it looks okay (this is my first intarsia project, even if it's only an H), so I'm taking it up there today to get their blessings or cry when they tell me to rip it out and start over. My goal is to have the sweater done before the new movie comes out. It'll be no problem once I get past the intarsia. I'll post pictures on my blog when I get to a point that the sweater is interesting.

Those THINGS are amazing!! Can't wait to see those THINGS all finished. ; )

I was wondering how you or the boys were going to choose who was 1 and who was 2. Logical explanation.

Your "things" look awesome! I'm totally impressed that you are knitting not one but two Halloween costumes!

Posted by: Cristina at October 27, 2005 11:11 AM

Eh, in life the first of anything is a bit of a practice run. It's all good in the end.

Posted by: Kathy at October 27, 2005 11:24 AM

Amazing, as usual. Does one have to block intarsia?

Those are turning out great! I can't wait to see the final picture with the HAIR. My daughter's preschool class has their party today, so I had to be done with costume by this morning. They robbed me of one more weekend to finish up!

When my sons were little then used to run up the walkway to the front door -- my older son yelling joyfully, "I'm first", and my younger son yelling just as happily, "I'm second". Sometimes those first-born children don't realize being first is NOT what it's all about.

I know, I can't wait to see these, either! Your twins are going to look fabulous!

Lookin' great! And please don't feel that you ever need to respond to my comments - I just leave them to let you know that I'm thinking of you!

Posted by: Julia at October 27, 2005 12:36 PM

What a cute idea! They look great already... can't wait to see the finished products!

Will you be my mom....I love these. They make me smile!

This pattern needs to be featured in a magazine!

It's just fabulous!

How about going down to the Today show on Halloween and parading your children in front of the Nation! You would WIN!

And then we could see you and the boys :o)

You are soooo talented!

What a great Mom you are! And an awesome combination of an original, fun idea and great execution. :-)

And as a person with a raging case of "first child", I have to wonder how being a twin affects it? Not being years ahead in school, development, etc seems like it would smooth things out.

Wow, looks great! I'm impressed by how Seuss-ish your intarsia looks--your chart captured the original without looking pixilated.

Too fabulous! Your boys are lucky kids, and they'll appreciate your hard work in another fifteen years or so... :)

That's so cool that you're knitting their Halloween costumes. They will look great.

Posted by: Wanda at October 27, 2005 4:48 PM

I can't WAIT to see the boys all dressed up. How amazing is that going to be?????

Posted by: knittingnurse at October 27, 2005 7:59 PM

It just keeps on getting better Alison!

Posted by: Dani at October 27, 2005 10:15 PM

Very cool! As everyone else, can't wait to see the things on the kids!
