in case you hadn't noticed...

...there's a new knitalong all ready for, well, knitting along.

I set up a group blog at whowouldntloveahandknittedgift.blogspot.com so everyone can post about all their progress. Just leave a comment to this post or send an email and I'll send you the invite to join the group!

...I love IKEA.

There's FINALLY an IKEA in the Boston area! We skipped the craziness of the grand opening on Wednesday, but one day was as long as I could go before visiting. So we drove over yesterday to check it out. The boys had a blast playing in the playroom and the showrooms and even got balloon animals!

....the boys loved their Thing costumes. Last week, before the Stoughton IKEA opened, we went to the New Haven IKEA (we just went to meet up with grandma!) and the boys wore these for the two-hour car ride.

That's quite a title for a KAL! Sounds like fun, but I already finished my (one) handknitted gift for Christmas already.

The new IKEA that opened near us had to close 20 minutes into their grand opening when one person was stabbed, a number of people were crushed and the motorway was turned into a car park as people abandoned their cars and walked to IKEA to get the special offers. It was closed for about 2 weeks afterwards I think due to the fact that someone died. They sneaked it open very quietly after that, no big fanfare at all!

The boys look so cute in their Thing wigs, bless them!

IKEA is the awesome-est!! Much fun to browse and try out the furniture and miscellaneous other stuff. Looks like you all had a great time.

Posted by: ruth at November 11, 2005 10:47 AM

That's so cool that they loved their costumes so much they want to still wear aspects of it!!!

WOuld you be so kind as to add me to the holiday knit-a-long?

Posted by: Caren at November 11, 2005 10:57 AM

The fun didn't stop after Halloween! I love, love, love the costumes. So clever!

Posted by: Christie at November 11, 2005 10:57 AM

So how does this Ikea compare with New Haven? I was hoping to go this week end but it looks like it will be a post turkey day visit!

Posted by: amysue at November 11, 2005 11:10 AM

Please include me in your knit along - thanks

Posted by: Darci McGrath at November 11, 2005 11:25 AM

Count me in! I have 4 pairs of socks a pair of leg warmers and a pair of fingerless gloves to knit by christmas and they all have to be done in secret ie when none of the family are about. My lunchtimes are going to be busy!
One and a half socks down plenty to go

Posted by: Janine at November 11, 2005 11:25 AM

Yes please to the knitalong! Christmas is coming up fast and I need some focus to get through the holiday knitting.

Posted by: Mary at November 11, 2005 11:35 AM

I'd like an invite to your knit-along! It's a great idea for the blogless.

If I had a thing wig, I'd wear it all the time, too...

Posted by: Amy at November 11, 2005 11:48 AM

hey! i would love to be on the holiday knit-a-long! (way to many presents... need a way to vent!)

Thanks!

I'd like to join. I have socks for mom to knit and a wrap for my sister. (I actually bought yarn with my sister's name - Cherry Tree Hill's Ariel - to make her gift)

Posted by: Jessica at November 11, 2005 1:20 PM

I'd love to join the KAL - I have about 5 things to knit!!

Posted by: Stacey at November 11, 2005 1:52 PM

Oh, I'd like to join the KAL! So far I only have one gift planned, but that doesn't mean that I won't think of anything else later.

Posted by: Cassa at November 11, 2005 2:23 PM

Hi! I'd love to join the KAL! I haven't decided on my definate To Knit List, still sorting out who's worthy!

Posted by: Tara at November 11, 2005 2:45 PM

I have only one item on my gift list (so far), but your knitalongs always look so fun, I'd love to join!

Posted by: Marlena at November 11, 2005 3:24 PM

Oooh! Please add me to this knit a long. I've got a tidy pile of stuff I'm knitting up for the holidays. (-:

Posted by: Chelee at November 11, 2005 4:04 PM

Knit along for holiday gifts ? Wow ! P L E A S E count me in. it only dawned on me yesterday that i hadn't given any thought to this... so i haven't even made a count of what i need to make. Something to start my list: socks for my mother in law. She won't ask, but i'm sure she'd like another pair of hand knit socks.

Posted by: nadine at November 11, 2005 4:10 PM

I'll join the knitalong. I have a few things I'm working on for xmas gifts.

Posted by: Alison at November 11, 2005 5:27 PM

Oh my, now this is the knitalong for me. I'm making something for basically everyone in my family and my husband's, though I do have some emergency back-up plans just in case reality kicks in.

Posted by: Molly at November 11, 2005 7:08 PM

I'd love to be a fly on the wall in the other cars that drove past you and saw not one, but two, blue-haired-boys in the back seat! ;-)

Posted by: Mary at November 11, 2005 7:11 PM

I'd like to join the new knitalong!

Also, just wanted to let you know I had received my Sockapal2za socks. I left a comment here right around Halloween. Didn't see you mention in the updates. (WHICH IS TOTALLY FINE!!) I'm more worried that you might still think things are still outstanding.

Posted by: Nannette at November 11, 2005 7:27 PM

Please add me to the knitalong!

I was wondering when the Stoughton IKEA would make its appearance here. I'll probably head there next week after whatever initial craze I imagine subsides.

Posted by: Monica at November 11, 2005 8:43 PM

Ahem. I was just informed by my boss that she had a pleasant exchange with you about knitting a NBaT in our (Webs) new cotton blend. She told me that you've never been to Webs--can this be true!?! Visit soon! There are a lot of fun diversions for the boys, too. The Eric Carle Museum of children's book illustration, pick your own apple places, etc.

Posted by: Cirilia at November 11, 2005 9:03 PM

I would love to join your KAL. I'm sure this will help me finish the 6 of 15 gifts that are left to knit. Thanks for a great idea!

Posted by: Katherine at November 11, 2005 10:25 PM

I'm dying to check out the new IKEA! I hope there will be some furniture left by the time I overcome my mob-o-phobia. (I'm pretty sure I'm not going to make it to GoF on opening night, either.) Can you still get a balloon animal there if you're over thirty? ;-)

Posted by: Beth S. at November 11, 2005 11:12 PM

Good that the Halloween mood is not over yet. It would surely make my day to spot two boys with blue furry heads on the backseat of a car.
But you triggered something: have to go to IKEA now..

Posted by: Carola at November 12, 2005 6:51 AM

A struggling law student who is hoping to maybe finish some gifts by xmas?

It would help ot have some poeple to cheer me on, and enable me...whatever.

All best,
Anna (who misses Knitsmiths a lot!!!)

I'd love to join the KAL. I have two shawls in the works for Christmas presents and more yarn waiting.

Posted by: Shara at November 12, 2005 12:00 PM

Posted by: Nancy at November 12, 2005 2:13 PM

I need to join the knit-a-long! I have an amazingly long list of want to dos, and I unfortunately am not that amazingly fast of a knitter.

Posted by: Michelle at November 13, 2005 3:52 PM

I'd love to join the new KAL, as I'm attempting to knit several gifts for the holiday (last-minute as always).

Posted by: Jen at November 14, 2005 5:28 PM

What a great way to keep those gifts a secret! I have a few that I haven't really made myself think about but I better get started.
