november 22, 2005

tuesday is knitalong day

Have you been over to the holiday gift knit-along recently?! There's so much incredible knitting going on, I can't keep up! Every day there are like 20 new posts, most with finished projects! (This sort of blog is exactly why we've got Bloglines notifier, people.) Seeing so many projects finished makes me feel like my gift knitting is moving at a glacial pace. Only one new knitgift to show you today.

A scarf-sized clapotis, also in Kosmos yarn, also knit in two days, for my other Great Aunt. I'm afraid that the quick and frugal gifts are at an end though. The next gift scarf is the turtleneck shrug from the cover of Scarf Styles in some rather pricey but fabulous Cash Iroha. 3x3 rib in black for miles. This one is definitely going to take a while.

And then it'll be time to get down to the socks.

Here's my sock pot, full of yarn for holiday socks. There's six pairs in there - one Koigu, two Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock, and three in Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sport (so glad that I went sport weight for at least half of these babies!) - all waiting for the elves to dig out the dpn's and work up their courage.

If I can only get them to stop surfing the holiday knit-along!

Speaking of socks, I'll be working on some final sockapaltwoza details (checking in with sock saviors and those still waiting for socks). Let me know if you still haven't received socks and have given up on your pal and I'll get you on the final sock savior list.

I love the pail of sock goodness! May the elves knit swiftly. I'm plying mine with almond roca and tea.

the sock pail is great! 6 pairs...hmmm...that means a pair of socks a week til christmas!

oh, also, just wanted to let you know i've yet to hear from my pal (the socks or an email).

I guess my secondary sock pal gave up on me too. :( That's okay though because I made a pair for myself. :)

No socks for me :( Last time we spoke I thought she was finishing them up, but that was a while ago...

I will try to take a picture soon of the turtleneck shrug (rehearsal schedule has me coming home awfully late). I made mine with some Cotton Comfort in a light blue. It needs to be washed and reblocked a bit because it feels like it stretches a lot and the ribbing becomes flat. I think it is the yarn.

i chugging along on my "savior" socks... i got busy with work, but i hope to finish them over thanksgiving and so will be sending them off in about a week or so!

actually, that shrug doesn't take all that long to do...and make sure you check how many rows of flat knitting you are doing between sleeves and neck..mine had too much there and i had to frog. i didn't know for sure till i had a couple rows of neck so i could try it on.

I'd be happy to knit socks for someone who didn't get theirs if someone else donates the yarn. I'm the Alison whose email address starts with aefost.

You have to love Shepherd Sport. I like the Shepherd sock, but there's something about the sport (weight notwithstanding) that's just so much more luxurious. Sure, there's not a bit of tough-wearing nylon, but hey, for right now I'm all about the knitting. I'll worry about the wearing issue later.
Enjoy!

What a coincidence, I was bidding on some Cash Iroha in black not two days ago on ebay (unfortunately I lost!) but anyway, it definitely looks like you need some Mrs. Weasely needles to work on all those socks! Nice colors, tho!

ooh, I like Clapotis as a scarf. What changes did you make to the pattern to make it work? This may be just what I need for a Christmas present I've been trying to decide on a pattern for.

ok, ok, i'll bite. can i join the holiday knitting KAL? granted, there'll be a bit of crochet, but can i? i wanna show off, but i can't because one person i know for sure is internet savvy, and just might look my blog up.

thanks!

WOW, the A scarf-sized clapotis is AWESOME...i better get over to the blog and check what's happening. I don't have time to post.
Im focousing on kniting. Finished the two fronts and back of one wrap cardi.

Becky, I just did one extra repeat of the increase rows (the pattern calls for 6 repeats, I think). I knit the straight row section until the scarf seemed long enough and then skipped right to the decrease rows.

Alison,

I have some Shepherd Sport I intend to use for a pair of socks for my husband. I've knit a pair of socks using Shepherd Sport in plain stockinette, but he wants a ribbed pair. Have you used this sock yarn in a patterned sock before? It seems to pill quite a bit and I'm concerned about how they will wear. I'm curious about your results, and whether you have any suggestions.

Magic Loop or at least two circulars are the way to go when it comes to socks. At least when there are tiny people around who might a) break the DPNS or b) dislodge them somehow. Not that I know this from experience or anything...

I believe I have finally given up on my sock pal. If I haven't been assigned a sock saviour, I would be grateful if you'd do so now. Thanks again for organizing the swap!

(And if you still need another saviour for someone other than me, I would be happy to take it on.)

You know, maybe those of us who did not recive socks should be paried with others and just work with one another. I know you have sock angles and what not, but I would be willing to take on someone sockless ;) . They would not be sent until around Christmas, but they would be sent. :)
