As it is Thanksgiving, I thought that I might redirect my crafty efforts to finishing up knitgifts for the two people I'm most thankful for. So it's time for those kool-aid caps to get their linings.
I pulled out some old gray turtleneck shirts that the boys had outgrown, lined up the hat along the bottom edge (so I don't have to make a hem on the lining), and cut out two panels.
The boys watched as I sewed them together - their first experience with the sewing machine and they loved it. Apparently it's machine enough for them. And now I've got two linings ready to be sewn into the hats. B let me slip the lining on him and take a picture without ever losing focus on the Lego building factory that is our dining room.
Yes, their tolerance for my try-ons and photo-taking is definitely something to be thankful for. The boys are thankful for Legos, of course.
Chuck E. Cheese Skee-Ball.
And each other.

Happy Thanksgiving from frosty Canada! Your boys are so lovely -- it's really fun to see them in action (and modelling your wonderful knits)!
Your boys are so darling! I am seeing my future in a pile of legos...
What a great solution to the hat lining! I may have to steal it for myself!
Aww...Happy Thanksgiving! I love the linings! Thanks for the idea!
Thanks for the ideas. Hope you guys have a great Thanksgiving. The boys are gorgeous and are such a gift! You do have a lot to be thankful for, don't you?
Clever you, to take advantage of the existing hem. The linings look as though they'll be nice and soft (and easier to write your name on, just in case the hat gets left behind somewhere) ... the boys are going to be styling this winter.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!
That is a great idea ... How did you sew the two pieces together, just along the edge or what? (I'm not much of a sewer, but would love to put a liner in my kids' hats) ...
Your boys are precious. I hope you all have a Happy Thanksgiving. :)
What a lovely Thnaksgiving sentiment Alison! Enjoy all your blessings with those you love!
Can't get over the cuteness! Great idea for the lining.
your boys are darling and you are such a wonderful mother! I am thankful for your wonderful blog where I receive daily inspiration for knitting and enjoy reminiscing about my life w/Legos (my baby boy turns 17 in 2 weeks)...it's good to see you enjoying them!
You read my mind! Thanks for showing how you did the lining. I'd love to see how you put it in the hats as well. Happy Thanksgiving!
My G-d. That's brilliant. Now I know what to do with all the old Tshirts I've been angsting over getting rid of.
Love the lining too! Would you mind posting how exactly you sewed them into the hats? Only around the trim, or do you sew them onto the top as well? I'm definitely going to do that as well, those liners protect the ears from the wind much better, I imagine.
What a great post! The linings look awesome, and the boys are so cute. When I read about your boys, I always think about when me and my twin were little ... a twin (or any sibling!) really is something to be thankful for!
Hee. The newspapers are reporting today that someone just stole $20,000 worth of Legos. Would you happen to know anything about it, perhaps?... ;-0
Happy Thanksgiving Alison!!
