weasley's weekly wizard wheezes

Not many updates this week:

TrevorKane finished her husband's beautiful heraldic lion sweater
and Jeanie has done some major surgery on her weasley

The knitalong's not over, folks! In fact, I've still got another weasley to make: a mini-weasley ornament for a new arrivial to my husband's family.

And here's an eensy-weensy little glimpse at that new Ron sweater from the film!!

from ABC Family's Inside Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Can you see the R? You can really see the sweater (it's a raglan with button closures on the raglan line) in the scene where they're riding to Howarts on the train, but I can't find a screenshot of it anywhere. We'll just have to wait until the DVD, I guess. Still, that doesn't mean that someone can't start sketching out a pattern already! (Um, not me, but I did hear that my fellow weasley co-hostess, Jenn is thinking about it!)

I was a bit partial to the zipper cardigan that Ron wore throughout most of the film. It was knit in Noro-esque stripes and in a a few shots you could see the reverse (inside) of it and it very much looked hand knit.

It's already sketched out and I'm in the process of looking for yarn at the moment. If anyone knows of a good chunky marbled yarn, I'm compiling a list for swatching. I guess I need to go watch the movie again with my camera and smuggle out some screenshots.

I'll be interested in knitting a few things from the new movie. I liked Ginny's hat in one scene, those Ireland scarves from the world cup, and if those were Hogwarts school scarves that Neville and some others were wearing durning task 2, then I wouldn't mind knitting one of those.

But I think I'll be starting a Ravenclaw scarf so I have something to knit while on vacation (can't knit presents when I'm on vacation with the family!).

i also like ron's sweater, i hope the costume designers of this movie will eventually read some of the knitting blogs and decide to have those lovely knit items for HP groupies. i actually like the weasley twin's hats in this new movie!!

Hey Alison I just posted a pic yesterday- of another weasley sweater! I have not seen the movie yet but I am going to see if I can take my son tonight. I am looking forward to it!!

I love this new sweater, but I will deffinatly make the original pattern. I just like it more on me. I am planning on going to the movie again so I can make up a pattern for Ginny's really awsome hat! I can whip that up really quickly and have something done for this KAL. Still have 1 1/2 mittens done.......*blush*

Isn't Ron wearing the zippered cardigan Dar mentioned in the pic above?

I have yet to see the new movie, but the Ron sweater I really like is the one he is wearing at the end of PoA. It's more of a tunic style, hemmed botton instead of ribbed, and a slit neck line, in a maroon (burgandy, whatever)/natural heathered wool.

Hey!, Is anyone up to making the "dress robes"?

Posted by: amysue at November 26, 2005 5:54 PM

I have a picture of my brothers wearing their "Quidditch Sweaters" on my blog. They aren't going to see the movie until next month but I saw it on Thanksgiving and loved all the knitting!

Hey Alison! I'm officially done with my Weasley!

My scarf is done, too. And it's officially my Favorite Knitted Item Ever. It kept me unbelievably warm and toasty all weekend long. (I think it's the tubular construction that makes it such an effective insulator. Or the fact that it's a good six feet long and can wrap around my neck several times!)

Next up, Gryffindor mittens/gloves with the leftovers?... I'll have to see if I have enough steam left for another Potter project.

I saw the movie the day it came out, and I just got back from seeing it in IMAX. Let me tell you, in IMAX you can even count the stitches! I, too, loved the Ireland scarves, and the scarf Neville is wearing is definitely a house scarf, but it's hard to see all of the house colors on a black background. Maybe it would look better on something lighter?

My, Ron has grown...is it just me or does the yarn look like Noro?...I sure can't design yet...I have way to much trouble with patterns before I can design my own...I tend "wing it" if you know what I mean (though I'm not very proud of that fact)

I was recently informed that my daughter, her two best friends, and my son were all greatly aggrieved that they didn't have the proper House scarves for our recent first viewing of Goblet of Fire. I have since added 2 Slytherin and 2 Ravenclaw scarves to the Christmas knitting list. Anyone know of any reasonable resources for the little house patches to go on said scarves?

I was able to see that the R on his new sweater is appliqued on using some sort of calico print fabric (maybe leftover from a Molly quilt??). I really loved this movie-- I thought it was the best yet!!

Posted by: Lelah at November 28, 2005 1:57 PM

Before T day I posted a pic of the hermione hat I made to match my Ravenclaw scarf.

Posted by: erin at November 28, 2005 2:42 PM

here's the inside word: ron's new sweater was a store bought jumper (UK terminology - go w it), which was then adapted by the film production team. yarn guess is a rowan, but they don't know. i'm on the search for a match - perhaps PLAID in DRIFTWOOD?

the R is definitely an applique. also note the nice big buttons and ribbed neckline!

who else was in love w the new hogwarts non-house scarves?

-m.

Wow, Lelah, calico print - cool! I love the sweater even more!

Posted by: alison at November 28, 2005 6:11 PM

Ron's sweater definitely caught my eye in the new movie... as did the cardigans the twins were wearing at the Quidditch World Cup in the beginning - they were kind of Mr. Rogers, but they pulled it off quite well.

I finished my HiP scarf and already gave it away to the intended recipient ;)
