all work and no play makes the elves talk of unionization

So before they started talking to Michael Moore, I gave them a day off from holiday knitting and let them have some fun. They made a pompom for my funky handspun hat.

I kept thinking how that crazy fringe is really what makes the scarf so cool and as I still had some leftovers from the fabulous misshawklet bulky yarn I'd used for it, I decided the hat really needed a matching pompom. I tried out one of those little ring pompom maker things (because I am crap at making pompoms!) and it worked so well, I'm now wondering if the boys' kool-aid hats don't maybe need pompoms too.

And since I used up all my misshawklet yarn, I had a friend pick me up some more of her funky handspun at Boston's Bazaar Bizarre this weekend. It's crazy cool!

Visions of funky scarves are dancing in my head....

I do think pompoms would add extra pinache and style to the kool-aid hats!

That is fun yarn!

Alison, I sense a slide beginning. . . towards the handspun . . .uh-oh. You might have to learn to spin if you're not careful.

That yarn looks so fun!

Hey, Julia! Sorry to disappoint, but I'm so not going there. I'm perfectly happy to buy all my yarn, hand or commercially spun. ;0) I am enjoying using more non-commercially produced yarns. I keep trolling etsy.com for great handpainted and handspun yarns and just love having something so unique.

LOL! Glad the elves have been appeased. Considering the threat of a transit strike is looming in NYC, I know just how important it is to keep those elves happy! Definitely looks like some fun stuff is happening at your place. :)

Hi, Alison!
I'm an avid knitter (no blog however...maybe someday!)and love to read your knitting adventures - both challenging and inspirational!
I used to live and work on Boston's northshore (moved to southern RI 6 years ago) and read all the Boston area blogs with much affection and a twinge of "homesickness"!
I writing to ask if you know of a poem to include in a pair of handknit socks that are a gift for someone. I found one on line a couple of years ago, loaned it to someone and it forever disappeared. I've searched extensively for it on the internet but haven't been able to find it.
I know you are very busy getting ready for Christmas so please don't let this be one more thing to do. I would love it for Christmas, but can certainly wait until after the holidays.
Thank you so much!
Happy knitting and Merry Christmas!
Maureen

he he he :) You are too funny :) The elves are talking to Michael Moore ... LOL

Just wanted to give you a quick note and let you know that I'm still working on my HP stuff, but due to family circumstances, I'm a bit behind on knitterly things (is that a word?) I told Chris his HP scarf may be a Valentine's gift instead of a Christmas gift. He did not take the news well ;)

Best Wishes!

The pompom looks great - I think you've inspired me to pick up one of those pompom makers next time I hit the big box stores. My pompoms always look a little weak.

oh! hi yarn! I'm glad you like it! If you remember, you have to show me a picture of what you make!
