the colors of brazil

I've got happy feet today, wearing my newly finished Regia Canadian Colors "Brazil Colors" socks! Unfortunately, in this case, happy feet means an unhappy hand, because, to finish them, I had to reknit that toe with my right hand (I haven't quite gotten the hang of knitting continental on dpn's yet). I'm such a cheater, I really don't deserve to have my hand get better. But I do deserve fabulous new socks.

I love how the heels came out on these - the stripes, the short-row decreases, they feel great too. And these socks remind me of Orlando Bloom, since I knit so much of them on the airplane while watching that Elizabethtown movie. (Does that ever happen to you, when you watch a show while knitting something or listen to an album a lot while working on one project and that project ends up reminding you of that show or song? I still remember knitting mom's sweater while watching the Osbournes and knitting the Karabella scarf while finishing Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. My favorite show to watch while knitting? Amazing Race. It's so tense and exciting all the way through that I just fly on whatever I'm working on!).

Oh, what's that you say, it's St. Patricks Day and you'd like to see something a little more green. You got it!

Oh those socks are wonderful! Many of my knits have memories attached and it's often what I was watching at the time.

Posted by: Karen at March 17, 2006 9:26 AM

I don't think I knit quite fast enough to associate just one show with any item. :) But I do have memories of places I was during certain knits. Your socks look great--as always I'm impressed by the matching stripes.

Yeah, knitting continental with dpns is a MAJOR problem for me. I did finally manage to figure out a method that kept the "disappearing yarn" trick from happening, but I don't know that I could describe it. I eventually just gave up and moved to a long circular. Oh joy, oh rapture!

Oh, and love your socks, and your boy, all dressed in "Irish green":)

I'm still so very amazed at how you can always get your socks to match up so perfectly!

The Amazing Race IS the best show for knitting: I finished a whole heel flap and gusset during this week's ep!

Posted by: Ashley at March 17, 2006 9:42 AM

The socks look great - and your stripes are so perfectly aligned!

Posted by: Carole at March 17, 2006 9:42 AM

I love the socks! I hope your hand feels better soon. Ouch!

Posted by: Jennifer at March 17, 2006 9:49 AM

Pretty socks! May be time to switch to knitting socks on 2 circulars, which is much much easier than DPNs...

Hello, little cute guy!

Mais Um, Brasil!

Sorry. Couldn't resist. I was in Brazil when they won the World Cup in 1994. "Mais um, Brasil!" was on everyone's lips. It just seemed the appropriate thing to say upon seeing your socks.

Love the socks! And cute kiddo to boot!

Beannachtaí na Féile Pádraig!

Roughly: happy Saint Patty's Day!

LOVE the socks!!!

Careful about the hand(s) though - I decided six years ago to just kinda go through the pain too, and I had to give up playing oboe and clarinet (and that was going to be my major in college), and am now going to occupational therapy and have to wear splints all the time 'cuz I can't do anything without pain.

Oh yeah, and I still LOVE the socks!!!

Great socks! I love how the stripes match up - mine NEVER do that, no matter how hard I try. Lookin good!

Posted by: Melanie at March 17, 2006 10:54 AM

great socks! give your hand a rest girl! you don't want to end up regretting it later (do i sound like a mom, or what!?!)

Posted by: rebecca at March 17, 2006 10:57 AM

Socks look great, they match up so well, too.

Posted by: Monica at March 17, 2006 11:42 AM

Bad knitter!! You don't want that hand to spoil more knitting time for you... How about taking up sewing again??

I finished my sockapaloooza socks NOT!, and I'll better start the Norwegian socks soon, since they got all the votes except one :)

Great socks! Happy St. Paddy's Day!

Posted by: wendy at March 17, 2006 12:09 PM

These are my favorite color combo yet. You can't go wrong when you've got blue and orange going on.

Posted by: Julia at March 17, 2006 12:24 PM

I also love knitting to The Amazing Race - I knit much faster when there's suspense or action involved... same thing was true during the Olympics - short track speed skating was particularly conducive to quick knits!

Great socks and cute festive boy :)

I knit continental with DPNs and when switching needles, keep the yarn threaded in my left hand, grab the newly empty needle with the right and move on to the next needle. All the pulling of the cables makes me nuts when knitting on two circs.

And Brazil will be champion for the sixth time!!!

Beatiful socks! Although, by the title of the post, I thought I would see some socks with more green, yellow and blue... BUT when I saw your little boy wearing the Brazilian shirt it was a surprise!!! Tell him that he has chosen the best soccer team to support!!

I think you have already figured it out.... Yes, I am Brazilian!

Great socks with a perfect short-row heel, but we wouldn't expect less from you ;-) Now, give your wrist the well deserved break, you heard all the others on this as well!
Sure, I am connecting knitting to places, books (mainly audio books) or movies and TV shows. In times of exorbitant digital photography on travels, my knitted sock during the trip are sometimes the even better remembrance. Even after years I will recall a certain train ride or hotel where I turned the heel ;-)

Your socks are GREAT! Love those Canadian colors--boy, if I weren't on a sock diet right now.....

Another Amazing Race fan here!!!

Posted by: JennyRaye at March 17, 2006 2:29 PM

Those are definitely fabulous new socks. I'm very jealous.

I have noticed that whatever movie I'm watching when I knit gets "imprinted" in that project. When I pick a project back up, as soon as I start to knit it again whatever I was watching when I knit on it previously comes rushing back in detail.

It makes me a little leary about what I watch while knitting certain projects. Baby stuff, for example, I try to "imprint" nicer movies. Not my CSI marathon or other various murder mysteries. ;-)

Posted by: Laurie at March 17, 2006 3:42 PM

They look perfect!! So cute.

Posted by: Kathy at March 17, 2006 4:00 PM

The socks look great!

I have a question about the plaid mitten pattern from Alison Hansel - where and how can I ask this?

It is where they start the thumb gusset. It mentions K14, M1R --- what is M1R?

Thanks in advance,
Carol Best

wow, amazing matching skills there! I don't think I have ever seen more identical twin-like socks!

Posted by: carole at March 17, 2006 5:21 PM

hi. I've been reading your blog for quite a long time and i love all of your works. your choice of colour is just fantastic.i am knitter, too but still a lot of things to learn. as i learned to knit in japan, i am not very good at "written pattern" yet, not only with language problem but i'm too used to japanese pattern full of photos. anyway, i hope i could read english patterns one day and knit like you. eiko

↑sorry, i've put a title instead of my name.

I agree about getting certain movies/shows "imprinted" on a project. Yet another reason not to watch any bad movies. ;)

The socks are fun!

Posted by: Rebecca at March 18, 2006 6:59 AM

Gorgeous socks. That is one cute twin!

Posted by: Jenny at March 18, 2006 8:46 AM

LOL. Socks look excellent. I see the kid is into Brazil as well.
