swim socks

I'm all packed up for a weekend away in NYC. (With the boys.) I'm not expecting to have any knitting time, but just in case, I've packed a little bag.

another wicked cool giftie my mom found
at our favorite Brooklyn boutique, Otto

It's a swim cap that has been sewn into a bag! Isn't it just the neatest thing? It feels all rubbery and spongey just like you'd expect. It's so funny. And it's the perfect size for holding a skein of sock yarn!

a skein of my 80's Retro Prep for me - wheee!

Knitting bags out of swim caps... Genius! The rubber is thick enough to handle even metal needles. I'm inspired!

Oooh waterproof!

That is just the neatest bag ever! Whoever thought of making one out of a swim cap was truly a genius. I also love that sock yarn in there! Have a fun weekend with the boys!

What an unusual idea - and waterproof.

Very cool! And perfect for a hot summer weekend!

Do you remember the caps with the three dimensional flowers on them! That would be a riot!

Found-object handbags are so neat!

That is a hilariously original and fun idea! I love it! And if you were to drop your knitting bag in water (unlikely, maybe, but I'm clumsy), your socks would be perfectly fine. Cool!

I posted a link to your blog from the Knit Sock Kit Swap for inspiration for their bags for the swap. The link to the swap is: http://www.ksks.scoutj.com/

Oh!! I love that. My grandmother used to wear those, I remember the smell so well. What a great idea.

That's a great bag. Love the colour of your yarn.

Love that bag - I remember being forced to wear those at the nearest swimming pool when I was a kid (all park district pools in Chicago required swim caps - most Y's too until about 20 years ago - parks may still). I looked at teh Otto website & she has the coolest art works available as pillows, cards or prints & she even does custom stuff - all extremely reasonably priced.

Too cool!

Ha, a swimcap! How cool!

Posted by: Amanda at June 18, 2006 1:07 PM

LOVE that bag. I've been looking for a goofy swim cap like that. I'd love to have an Ethel Merman Halooween costume in my repetoire.

To keep that bag from degrading into a sticky mess all over whatever lovely yarn you've got in it, keep it out of the sun/heat, and an occasional dusting of either cornstarch or baby powder, inside and out, would also extend its life.

LOL, what will they think of next.

NICE!!

I've been using bags that travel mugs came in. As in, a gift travel mug came in a velvety bag with a draw string at the top. Handy, but the needles poke through. Gonna have to see if I can find one of these here in Canada!

What an awesome idea! Whoda thunk??? :)
