yarn for lola

I've scoured my stash and managed to come up with yarn to recreate the hat that B designed for wee one on the way! I couldn't get over how much the hat looked like a hat that Lola from Charlie and Lola would wear. And Lola looks so cute all the time, I couldn't help but go searching for the yarn to make it. And, heh, heh, because my stash is obscenely large, I found everything I needed.

Here's the rundown: red - Frog Tree Merino; purple: Anny Blatt Merinos; gray - NatureSpun Sport; brown: uuuh, maybe Elsebeth Lavold Chunky AL?; orange - Classic Elite Princess; yellow - Cascade 220 Superwash; black - Classic Elite Bazic; green: Nashua Julia; blue: Manos del Uruguay. The gauges are a bit different but the colors are so perfect that I've gotta make it work. This is going to be fun!

Can't wait to see it finished! I think you have a future designer -- must run in the family. :)

Perfect!!!

This is going to be adorable! Will it have a tassel or pompom?

Posted by: Samantha at November 15, 2006 9:49 AM

The hat will be both funky and adorable! I can not wait to see the finished product!

Posted by: nova at November 15, 2006 9:56 AM

That is so cool! What a sweet little hat that'll be and all the more so because it was designed by B :)

You'd better be careful. I'm imagining ever more fanciful drawings being produced, along with expectations that you will somehow turn them into knitted garments. But that hat does look like fun.

You are such a great Mom! So respectful of your children.
This is going to be a hat with a story. How priceless is that?
Can't wait to see it finished.

That is cool.

Too cute. What a lot of fun for you and the boys.

Alison, I just wanted to let you know how much I am enjoying the baby knitting blog. I have several new ideas for gifts, now. Of course, it is always fun to see what others are knitting.

I want you for my mom! What a trip it would be to draw something colorful with my crayons, then have my mom make it real in yarn.

Posted by: kmkat at November 15, 2006 10:38 AM

That is going to be totally adorable!

Posted by: scoutj at November 15, 2006 10:46 AM

Adorable idea!!! I love Charlie and Lola. I have an older boy and a younger girl (just like you, though you have TWO boys!) and it's a great show to model positive big brother behavior. :) Can't wait to see the finished product!

Posted by: Leslie at November 15, 2006 10:51 AM

That is gonna be adorable and your son will be so proud!

Posted by: Lori at November 15, 2006 11:16 AM

You might just raise a knitwear designer!

Posted by: elizabeth at November 15, 2006 11:17 AM

The colors couldn't BE more perfect!! They match perfectly to his drawing on my monitor!! Another thing I adore about Lola is the precious little clips/ties/bows in her hair that look like two little loops. They look like little butterflies and I'd love to dream up a way to make some for my daughter.

Posted by: Laura at November 15, 2006 11:44 AM

Perfect! I love opportunities like that, to respect a child's artistic imagination.

Posted by: Ruth at November 15, 2006 11:54 AM

I think it's too funny that you can knit that hat without having to go shopping for a single color!
I would instruct B that next time, it needs to be something that requires stash enhancement!
Seriously, I can't wait to see it (tomorrow, probably, as fast as you knit!) It reminds me of how Amanda (www.soulemama.typepad.com) embroiders her childrens' artwork. Such a neat thing to turn their creations into a real life physical object!

I love the idea that you are knitting a Lola hat! My niece is crazy about Charlie and Lola...it's her favorite and her best! :) I can't wait to see what you come up with!

Posted by: Stacey at November 15, 2006 1:18 PM

Yay for Charlie and Lola! It is absolutely my favourite and best children's tv program (in fact our C&L DVD is MINE!!!)

Posted by: Anne at November 15, 2006 1:23 PM

That's the way to get ideas!

Posted by: Carol at November 15, 2006 3:45 PM

Lovin' it!!

Posted by: Lynn at November 15, 2006 4:53 PM

Great colors, and I agree Charlie and Lola are fantastic, and she makes me laugh. My 5 yr old daughter loves watching them, and she has 3 DVD's of them now, so rainy days are much easier.

Perfect! Great idea to have slightly different gauges too, it'll give it personality and texture! Can't wait to see it.

Posted by: CatMyers at November 15, 2006 6:36 PM

Look, I foudn some "Lola" hats!

That is so cute, can't wait to see the finished hat.

Posted by: yvette at November 16, 2006 1:22 AM

Super kewl. it's a hat the guague won't be a big deal...perhaps you'll have switch needles.

Posted by: Orli at November 16, 2006 3:15 AM

It blows me away that you have all the exact colors from the picture in your stash. That is craaaazy. I am excited to see how it turns out.

Posted by: Jennifer at November 16, 2006 5:08 AM

It's going to look great! :)

Posted by: Samantha at November 16, 2006 7:22 AM

I think having all those different yarns will make it even more funky! Cool! Yay for stashes.

Posted by: ruth at November 16, 2006 9:40 AM

What a fantastic way to encourage your son's creativity....and yours.

Posted by: Marlene at November 16, 2006 8:12 PM

I'm impressed that you found the exact colors. Good luck with the adorable hat. Your baby will be the best-dressed of all the knitters'.

Posted by: Allie at November 16, 2006 9:57 PM

What a brilliant idea! It is going to mean a lot to both B and the little one when they are grown ups. And of course, they'll both enjoy it right away. I wish I could turn my creative thinking cap on like that.
