felted enough for ya?

Actually, no. And why should it be, it only went through the wash four times. Okay, I couldn't wash it in super hot water because I was doing real laundry with it and I couldn't stay by the machine to keep it from going through the rinse, so it's not like we had optimal felting conditions. After five washes, though, it finally went from this...

...to this:

And the boys made some paper flowers to fill up the bowl for my great aunt.

How very merry.

It's just lovely and the paper flowers are a beautiful touch. By the way, what's up with the sock creatures? I got the book and started cutting up argyle socks last week during a free hour, then had to put it away because kids would be around. I haven't gotten back to it yet!

I imagine had your knit bowl been a favorite sweater or sock it would have felted completly on the first wash!

I love the paper flowers - how incredibly sweet!

The bowl is gorgeous but I'm surprised at how long it took. Have you felted that yarn before? I felted a bunch of oven mitts last night & did notice a difference between the different brands of yarn & even between the different colors of the same yarn. But they all felted a lot more than that in less than 15 minutes in fairly hot water (not so hot that I couldn't put my hand in it) on a fast agitation speed. As was my previous experience, the Paton's Classic Wool felted like a dream. I may use only it for felting in the future. The Lamb's Pride felted pretty well but not like the Classic Wool.

I just wanted to comment on how cute that bowl is! I love reading your blog!

Is it bad for felted items to go through the rinse cycle?

In any case, I love the bowl.

After I posted my earlier comment, I discovered a pot holder that had somehow escaped the mass felting of yesterday. So I threw it in with a load of wash - warm wash, cold rinse, regular cycle. And it felted even less than your bowl! Still very obvio8us stitches. And it's Cascade 220 which felts almost as well as Classic Wool. So it's going through a hot wash as I type. After all, your bowl is gorgeous even unfelted but a plain orange pot holder really does need to be felted well to work.
