The boys have been desperate for a little fun time with mommy, so yesterday after school we made some candy sushi.
I saw the recipe on a Rachel Ray show and then after the boys went to a Japanese classmate's birthday party and got this toy food sushi as a favor, I thought, oooh we gotta make these. Rice krispie treat wrapped around a twizzler, rolled up in a green fruit roll up and it's the sweetest sushi you've ever eaten in your life!
Then, late that night, I finally finished the second sleeve on baby's neapolitan candy sweater.
I ate some hershey kisses and wee one danced around in my belly. A little mommy and a lot of candy for everyone!

I've always wanted to make the candy sushi (my DD has the Rachel Ray kids' cookbook) and they have somewhere online cute ones with swedish fish laid across the top, too.
here's a picture with some in the middle:

I've also seen the sushi done with Twinkies in the middle (instead of rice krispies).
Adorable sweater by the way. The little one will be adorable!
Cool sushi idea! That looks like you guys had fun...
Okay. That sushi is SO cute! The sweater is adorable as well.
Oh wow, it all looks so great. Go Super Mom!
the sweater is looking just adorable! what a great way to use self-striping yarn :)
whenever i eat chocolate, my peanut dances around inside of me too. she will no doubt grow up wanting the stuff!
I love the sushi idea! I am going to have make some of those for myself!
that is too cute! and the boys look so excited to get some mommy time! the sweater is definitely too cute and is way too edible. :o)can't wait to see it as an FO!
oooh...that looks and sounds good. mind you when I make Rice krispie treat I used melted chocolate, not Marshmellow...I find that to sweet and sticky. but I will try that sushi...I also love real sushi...
This post looks good enough to eat - from the sushi to the sweater!
Candy Sushi - What a good idea. Sounds like a of FUN too. BTW: the sweater is pretty I like the colors in that yarn.
The sweater looks great!
I'd like to know if you block your pieces before you seam. Do tell.
OH MY GOD, that's the best candy project ever. Please tell the boys to save some for me... and I bet even Shannon'll be into that kind of sushi.
so fun! Of course, my teeth ache just looking at that candy sushi. Can't wait to see the finished neapolitan sweater!
What a great idea ... although the idea of the sushi makes my teeth itch. The sweater is adorable.
Great sweater! How many skeins did you need to get the patterning to match so beautifully?
Teehee, the candy sushi look like a variety known as "Japanese flag" because the red dot of filling on a white field of rice looks like the Japanese flag. It's nostalgic home cooking, rather than fancy food like the toy sushi.
I love the sushi! My daughter and I totally have to make it.
Mmm...now I have a pregnancy craving for candy sushi. I've been missing my salmon nigiri, but I'll settle for rice crispie treats wrapped in fruit roll ups! (How cute would a candy sushi handroll be?)
Plastic sushi, knit sushi, candy sushi, now this. The real kicker is the sushi rice. Rice Krispie Treats? I love the irony! Thank you for sharing. The sweater? Still delicious.
The sweater is coming along beautifully. I can't wait to see it all seamed up and ready for wee one to wear. How many ounces of the striping sock yarn did you need? (Thinking of trying a sock yarn sweater myself . . .)
One of our Mom's brought that sushi to our Halloween Party. It was a huge hit - there were no leftovers.
The sweater looks great!
Sushi could suddenly be my thing if it is Rice Krispies and not fish ... yum! The sweater looks great.
That looks great! Thanks for showing and telling! When will the new sockapalooza registration begin? I was in the first one and would like to join in this one if I may?
Answering some questions:
Yes, Michelle, I did block these pieces after knitting and before I start the seaming because they were soooooo curly. Normally I don't do a lot of blocking. Certainly, never pre-seaming unless the pattern stitch really needs it or in this case the thing just rolls into a little tube on me!
Kelley, these patterns at bee's knees knits are generally designed to use 100g of sock yarn - so the normal amount you'd have in your stash if you'd planned to make socks. They use a contrast color for the back, so you've got plenty of yarn to get the stripes to match on the other pieces. After making this sweater, I probably have two more stripe repeats left in my skein - enough to make a pair of booties, I bet!
And Twinkie sushi.... yuuuuuuuum!
Can't wait to make some with my fish-sushi lovin' son.
I love the candy sushi idea! I used to make veggie sushi rolls for my son after school. he's 23 now, but will be so jealous that he missed out on those;) I have that sock yarn in my stash. After watching the progress of your sweater I am having second thoughts of it becoming socks! Very cute indeed.
