january 17, 2007

isn't january supposed to be for selfish knitting?

I haven't been knitting anything for myself because I've been so busy with design work and, really, who knows what my body will look like tomorrow anyway. But now that I can see the finish line on this pregnancy thing, I have started to think about what I might make next for me, for after. I've been keeping an eye open for something that might flatter the typical post-pregnancy figure and found two sweaters that I can start just as soon as my design work is done and sockapalooza four is underway. And as I'm trying to whittle down my stash a bit to make room for baby, I've got plans to make 'em with yarn I already have!

The first is a ruffly, side-tie wrap sweater from Edition Rebecca #8. I've got some lovely Ingenua Mohair to use for it that I got on sale at a Wild & Wooly clearance last year. It's red. I like red.

And then an irresistibly cute little shirt-style sweater with deep ribbing from Laines du Nord Simple Knits #5. For that one I've got some pink Jaeger Luxury Tweed I found this year at the same clearance sale. I knew it was safe to buy the yarn, because I simply cannot keep pink in my stash - it will get knit!

Soon, my pretties, verrry soon....

What a beautiful red! it reminds me of a muppet! I am glad you are knitting something for yourself, you deserve it!

oooooh, i'm jealous, I've been wanting to make my self a side-tie wrap sweater for ages, just haven't gotten round to it and havent found a cheap mohair either LOL...I'm also a bit worried about knitting with mohair, I don't like sweaters that shed and I worry it will be hard to knit, though another blogger said it's good to put it in the freezer before you knit it.

Oooooh,I like that Laines du Nord top, and I HEART Jaeger Luxury Tweed. I have a bunch in my stash that I'm actually planning to make into a wrap sweater some (very distant) day.

I'm very keen on your colours and the sweater style looks really interesting, yet agreeably simple too.

That pink would make a fine cardigan, a la Dolores Umbridge!

Hey, I knit a scarf out of that pink tweed. It blocked out beautifully. One of my favorite scarves!

Beautiful sweaters and beautiful yarn. Can't wait to see some FOs!

That Jaeger Luxury Tweed is very nice to work with. I made a Hourglass sweater out of it and love it, but it is a wee bit scratchy, but soaking it in hair conditioner helped it quite a bit.

I love the ruffle wrap!!! It's wonderful! And it will probably still be freezing in Boston so you can wear it for two or three months before summer!

That Luxury Tweed is so yummy...it'll look great knit up in that Laines du Nord pattern! Have you contemplated buttons yet, or do you go the sensible route and wait until you're finished knitting?

Mmm love that pink tweed. The ruffle wrap sounds really nice. Red is such a flattering colour. So vibrant.

The yarn is gorgeous. I can't wait to see the finished products!

Oooooooh. I love that pink yarn - it just looks so yummy. I could knit happily for ever if the only yarns in my stash were pink & red!

I love the pink tweed! I can't wait to see how it turns out.

Yes, you deserve it! And I totally just wist-ed the "Laines Du Nord", thanks for the link!

I used that pink Jaeger in a scarf for a teacher last year, and it was gorgeous. She still wears it and comments about how much she loves it. It was just a feather and fan, nothing fancy.
