january 19, 2007

this sweater is the bee's knees

All seamed and ready for our wee one stand in, the fireman. (The boys are so thankful they're too big to do these try-ons!) I found pretty little pearly buttons for the front that have a little pink sheen to them.

And look how well the sweater goes with the booties I got at the shower from fellow Knitsmith, Terri!

Especially with the teeny tiny heart on the back...

All in all, I really enjoyed making this sweater. It was a lot of knitting at that tiny gauge, but the pattern was very clear and keeping a "one piece at a time" attitude made it totally manageable, even in pre-baby stress. (I still can't believe that it's finished already!) And I love the pink and brown Trekking yarn in this baby sweater much more than I would have ever liked it in a pair of socks.

Thanks to Holli for such a great pattern and to all you blog readers who recommended bee's knees knits!

Very nice! I love the little booties you got, too. They match so well!

That is adorable! I want one just like that when I have a baby (which is many years down the road..)

Posted by: beckie at January 19, 2007 2:39 PM

Is there going to be a little hat to match, witha heart on the front?

Posted by: elan at January 19, 2007 2:45 PM

Adorable!

Posted by: Ginger at January 19, 2007 2:48 PM

I love the colors in the sweater.. very sweet! You just can't go wrong with brown paired with pink or cream. :) Do you know what pattern was used for the booties?

Posted by: Minns at January 19, 2007 3:12 PM

That matches so perfectly! But... WHAT pattern are those booties? They're beyond adorable!

(tell the fireman it suits him wel ;) )

Wee one will be the best dressed baby girl in Boton - nay on the entire Eastern Seaboard!

Posted by: Donna at January 19, 2007 3:37 PM

I meant BOSTON - I may be the world's worst typist (& for that last 10 years of my career, writing was a major part of my job & I had to do my own typing!). Without spell check, my writing would be unreadable.

The sweater is beautiful- all that hard work is worth it.

Posted by: melb at January 19, 2007 4:11 PM

That makes such an adorable set! How perfect.

I've been lurking around your blog since you started your bee's knee's sweater, and I thought what a better time than to "delurk" than when you've finished it. I think it's absolutely darling, I've been admiring it from start to finish. I have two boys who are 17 months apart(9yr9mo,8yr4mo)and we were blessed with a surprise baby girl who is now 17 months. She's so much more fun to knit for. I've also been enjoying the ity bity hats you've been cranking out too!

Posted by: Danielle at January 19, 2007 5:38 PM

Wow, it is just beautiful. What a sweet set!

Posted by: earthchick at January 19, 2007 6:34 PM

The sweater looks great...the hear on the back is such a great detail. Nice job!

Posted by: Becca at January 19, 2007 7:17 PM

Stunning. :) Your precious little girl is going to look beautifully girly in it. :)

Posted by: Samantha at January 19, 2007 7:50 PM

Awww...Those little heart motifs are so cute! Do you already have the perfect name, too, or are you going to wait until you meet her?

Posted by: Sarah at January 19, 2007 8:47 PM

So sweet, your little one is very very lucky to have such a talented Mum!!

Posted by: Rebecca at January 19, 2007 9:45 PM

Wow, that looks great! And you're right, the booties are the perfect match!

Posted by: Tracey at January 19, 2007 9:57 PM

I neeeeeed that yarn! Wish you could get it here, I guess I'll just have to order it on the internet sometime. I might even make socks with it! (shock horror - I still haven't really caught the sock knitting bug)

Posted by: Sarah at January 20, 2007 6:05 AM

Beautiful little knit-love the colors.

Posted by: brooke at January 20, 2007 7:55 AM

That really came out great. Am feeling a little pang that a) my "babies" are too grown up to make such a sweater for and b) self-patterning yarn like that wasn't around when they were little, not that I knew about, anyway. Maybe I should get to that American Girl doll sweater I promised daughter #2 after I made one for daughter #1's Molly. Even though she's much too grown up to care one way or the other, it would be fun (for me!) to do. I even have the weensy little pewter buttons tucked away. Parenthetically, if you don't know about American Girl dolls yet, you're in for a great big treat - although since the company was bought out by Mattel, it hasn't been quite the same. What with the Legos and whatever your girl child gets into, we do support the toy companies, don't we? By the way, Lego (or some other knock-off company) makes bricks in pink, purple and aqua for the feminine builder.

Ok, you know how somethings are so sweet they hurt your teeth? Ouch!! (In a good way) That sweater is adorable and the fellow knitter must have been stalking your blog since the booties are a perfect match! You little girl has no choice but be an amazing princess in handknits. :)

Posted by: Lynn at January 20, 2007 12:01 PM

Now that's just too cute. :)

Posted by: Arsie at January 20, 2007 2:41 PM

This is just so sweet! Very nicely done. :0)

Posted by: Charity at January 20, 2007 2:56 PM

The sweater and matching slippers are adorable. Pictures of wee one wearing it will be required once everything fits!

Posted by: Lisa at January 20, 2007 5:41 PM

I love this sweater! I love the yarn, too. Which trekking yarn is that?

Posted by: Angie at January 20, 2007 6:44 PM

Eek! I think I squeaked when I saw the finished sweater. So gosh darn cute. Can only get cuter with your little girl snug and warm inside of it. And the booties are so sweet, too.

Posted by: Siri at January 20, 2007 11:38 PM

That baby sweater is gorgeous. I can't believe how beautiful it came out. Your baby is so lucky!

Posted by: carrie at January 21, 2007 6:44 AM

That sweater gives me the same feeling as the polka dot nursery we just painted. I could cry! Or maybe that's just the hormones...

either way, the sweater is beautiful and the booties are perfect with it!

Posted by: Meg at January 21, 2007 2:52 PM

DEFINITELY the bee's knees! So cute, nice work, I'm really excited about all of your baby knits. Wee one will be the BEST DRESSED baby around!! When is your due date? (If you don't mind my asking, just curious when I'll get to see the adorable knits modeled by a flesh and blood wee one.)

Posted by: Allie at January 21, 2007 3:18 PM

Love the baby sweater! How many skeins for Trekking did you use?

Posted by: Ava at January 21, 2007 3:23 PM

Oh, this is so very beautiful - and I love the colour combination!

Posted by: Dipsy D. at January 22, 2007 4:00 AM

This is one of the cutest baby sweaters I have ever seen! I want one!

Posted by: Kristy at January 22, 2007 10:48 AM

That sweater is adorable. I love the striping!! What number is that color Trekking??

Posted by: kimberly at January 22, 2007 2:07 PM

Great job! Too bad that Trekking colourway is no longer available. I would love to use it for a sample or even in my kits. The heart is a wonderful touch.
