love is a warm blankie

Happy Valentine's day!

I'm up early unable to sleep after a long day of kid dentist appointments, new car shopping and buying decisions, and teaching. I didn't have a single moment yesterday to sit down until late evening and then what I really needed was some blankie knitting warm fuzzies.

Thanks to my knit fix, the second strip of S's blankie is now well underway with the blue, red, blue... stripe pattern coming out nicely. S saw the red strip blocking and has already asked if I'm going to end up sewing the two together. So smart! He says he likes it and it's just how he wanted it, but I'll have to wait and see if it really captures his heart the way his first blankie did.

Get this: when I picked the boys up from school yesterday to bring them to the car dealership to help pick out a new car, S said we had to go home real quick for him to get something. I thought he wanted a quick treat or drink - or the inevitable poorly timed bathroom stop - but instead he rushed in and grabbed the little version of his old blankie and brought that with him to the dealership. Surprising, strange (since he never uses that small blankie), but nice.

Alison, I'm in awe of how much you can do and how well you do it. I'm very happy for you that you have this blog to look back and see how you're children have grown and little comments that they make, like a living scrapbook!

Little blankie! So cute.

Is there a minivan in your future? I put 3 in a regular car all the time, but its kinda cosy, and no room for friends to come with us. (its not required, I just want to share the joy!)

Oh noooooo Suzanne, no minivan for us. We've had all four of us in a Geo until now, so a regular sedan is going to feel like a luxury car with room to spare!

Did you ever watch the comedian Kevin Meaney who would always say "we're just big pants people!" Well, we're just small car people! :0)

Don't you love when the children love your handknits! It's nice when they appreciate how much you do for them. Enjoy the new car you find!

YAY for small cars! The blanket's looking great! I'm sure S will love the finished product!

Dude, you are fast. I find baby blanket knitting the most impossible task (not that S is a baby any more -- I should say "small" blanket knitting). I never did finish the one I started while pregnant with my little one, who is now two. My brother's wife is due in June and I started at Xmas -- I'm hoping to be done in time, but I wouldn't bet money on it. Your patience and attention span has earned my admiration.

Aww, hooray! The blanket looks awesome. Smooth. He'll love it, even if it's not exactly the same.

Ooh, the blankie is coming along quite nicely!

Hehehe...I have a mini-van, but no kids yet, just 2 dogs. We love it! It's great for traveling or Ikea shopping.

Happy V-day! The blankie is looking awesome!

Great Blankie!! What yarn are you using? I couldn't read the full wrapper.

Adorable. It's hard to grow up, I guess, but your boys know how to find the support they need. Good luck over the next few weeks.

The blanket is looking great! I just started a baby blanket and already have had to frog it twice...

Great blanket! So sweet that he wanted his little blankie.

I drove small cars (a Toyota Tercel, and then a Mazda Protege) until I was expecting #4, then I had to give it up. Minivans since then. The extra space was a necessity at that point, but I sure hate cleaning the thing out!

Alison, I think S was right-the Lamb's Pride is making a beautiful blankie. I don't know if I would have thought of it for that prupose before, but it really looks great!

Lots of change in his future -- new car, new blanket, new sister. He's probably not even consciously aware that all this change is a little daunting to him, but probably just felt like a little blanket cuddling was in order....

That waking up early thing must be an epidemic, because it hit me this morning, too. Crazy! The blanket looks way nice!! Very good color choices.

Gorgeous blanket. Love it! Colours are fabulous.

I did a double-take when I saw that blanket. Check out the scarf I knit for myself last month http://kmkat.typepad.com/kmkat_and_her_kneedles/2007/01/i_fed_an_o.html
Great minds make similar color choices!

Wow, you amaze me! You are fast, fast, fast in my book! You've whipped out those two strips in no time flat. The blankie is gonna be fabulous, I love the colors--tell S he has good taste!
