I couldn't resist starting wee one's blanket! S's isn't done yet, but since I'm still well under the "90 day yarning" deadline, I let all that pretty pink tempt me and cast on.
This is actually the start of the second strip. The purple wasn't calling to me quite as loudly as the pink, so I'm starting with pink and block pattern number two. There will be three different block patterns - one for each color section - and let me just say, doing a little pattern is turning out to be much slower than knitting all that stockinette on S's blankie!

brother and sister blankies
I just love that blanket! I was wondering about the pattern. I need to start on a blanket for my nephew who is due in a few months and am having trouble deciding what style to go with.
Beautiful! :) The texture is lovely. A little one will love touching it.
Lovely! You're tempting me into another blanket for my on-the-way nephew!
That's a nice stitch pattern -- simple, but it produces a pretty texture.
Mmmm, it looks very pretty, though. I'll look forward to seeing all the different patterns on the pieces!
I love the colors! And the pattern, it's simple but so pretty.
looks like a beautiful start to the blanket!
That's a really cute little pattern! I don't think I would be able to resist the pink either- you go for it!
That's a beautiful pattern! And I love that pink.
I'm making the same blanket along with you, but doing it in cotton. It makes sense to start the piece that you did first, because the one colour piece can then be knit to match the exact size of the dual coloured side.
Looks great - I like the subtle pattern and it works with the color.
Wow! What a lovely pattern - a simple yet sumptuous pattern. I'm sure it will be loved to shreds!
My mom knit me a new blankie for my 21st birthday, just like the old one. It was the best gift ever!
PS, could you show the back when it's done? I always crochet my baby blankets (even though crocheting isn't my favorite craft) because I don't like for my blankies to have a 'wrong' side. I'd love to see how those patterns look on the back.
That is so much prettier than the blankie I had as a child! I, too, am curious to see what the back of it looks like.
I'm so partial to square type patterns that look like weaving, when I was pregnant with my now 18 month old daughter I knew I was having a girl too, and pink just called to me all the time as well! Not just in knitting, but in clothes and socks and bibs, etc. I had 2 boys first that are quite a bit older(they were 7 and 8 when she was born). Pink is wonderful!!!! I agree totally about how a pattern can be somewhat slower than all that nice repetitive stockinette. But as you said, Wee one doesn't know anything yet about the 90 day rule! Just beautiful progress!!!
Hey Alison
Love the blog. I was wandering about the net and found it.
Even more than that I love the idea of a Harry Potter knitting book! Can't wait for it to come out. :)
I'm currently running a massive worldwide knit to make giant scarves for the Trafalgar Square Lions in aid of Cancer Research. I wonder if anyone will knit a Hogwarts bit?
I thought you might be interested in seeing it anyway as you seem to be as enamoured with all things knitty. :)
There is a basic outline on our website at www.stitchandbitchlondon.co.uk and a link to my blog on there too.
Good luck with the book. :)
Lauren
PS It took me six months to knit a baby blanket once. Now they scare me! :P
Cute, cute blanket!! Lucky, lucky baby!
knitting two blankies at once...[gasp] but if anyone can you sure can.
