i wonder how long it'll take bef....

Right, I didn't even get the whole question out before B asked for a new blankie of his own. I saw him sitting on his bed the other day snuggling with his blankie and I went up to him, gave him a hug and asked if he still loved his blankie. He said, "yes... (pause)... I was just going to ask if I could have a new blankie." And I said, "of course." Well, it's only fair, right?

B described what he sort of wanted and it was very similar to what S has and wee one is getting, so I went back to Sarah Dallas for another afghan pattern to use. B only wants two strips, two colors, so I'll be using one of these Half and Half Afghan patterns from the Sarah Dallas Knitting book.

(I've got to tell you, I NEVER imagined that I'd knit so many things out of this book! And never so many blankets. It was a pretty book, and, I'll admit it, sort of an impulse buy and once I had it, I wasn't really quite sure why I'd gotten it. I leafed through it again a couple of weeks ago though when I reorganized my knitting books and that's when all the blanket patterns caught my eye. And since I was in the market to knit a couple of new blankets, it was really serendipitous.)

So off we went to the yarn store for yarn. B wanted yellow (of course) and since I've always wanted to use it, I pushed him a little towards the Cascade 220 Superwash and the fabulously fun bright blue. He insisted on white for the contrast edging and there we have it, another blankie ready to be made.

I asked S to remind B of just how long it takes to yarn a blankie. Know what he said? "Uhhh... one day?" Thanks for the help, bud.

One day? You'd better get started!

Awwww, they are the cutest. I can't wait to see those colors knit up - it will be so springy we'll all put on swimsuits and shorts and run around in flip flops!

What confidence! However, at the speed that it seems you knit to those of us readers, one day doesn't seem like such a stretch. The colors are great.

I can hardly wait to see B's new blanket. Or the wee girly's either.

lovely.. I need to finally knit a blanket!

Isn't a child's concept of time amazing? You are such a good Mom, and I know you are going to try to knit that blankie in one day, or two or three anyway! Sit, relax, knit. What could be better?

Don't you just love kids' sense of time (or lack thereof)? I remember being about 7 & my mother saying she was tired & needed to lie down with her eyes closed for 15 minutes (now that I think about it, she was probably pregnant with my brother who was born the day after my 8th BD). I would wait for what seemed like hours & then go wake her up & it would've been 5 minutes. The amount of time from one birthday to the next is endless. So, yeah, you probably did finish his blankie in what seemed like one day to S. And you'll probably finish B's just as quickly (or slowly to a 5 year old).

I wondered how long it would take for B to ask for a new blankie. It truly must be spring! Lots of new things sprouting at your house. ;-)

Don't you love when they have no concept of time? I know B's blankie will be a relaxing knit for you while you wait for wee one to appear. Rest up, mom!

Yeah, don't you hate it when you "yarn" the first blankie too fast, setting the bar a leetle high? Ah well. It's going to be a great new blankie in 1 day or 90...

And you said, "One DAY?? BWAAAahahahahahaha..." Right? hehe Sweet colors for the blankies. :)

Posted by: Laura at February 20, 2007 11:31 AM

How sweet! B has great taste in colors, too.

Looks like B secretly wants to attend UCLA. Those are their colors, straight up.

I'm doing a sweater for my husband out of Cascade's Superwash Wool in an olive green; isn't it a fun yarn? I can't wait to see how the blankie turns out!

Better get going; the days almost done :)

I love the color choices.

You may have answered my question about wool maintenance with the superwash choice for this blanket. ;-)

I do love Cascade though. It ends up doing the job better than anyone else over and over.

How cute! We have that going on here too. Although my 4 y/o wants a mitered square blanket (80 squares). Can't wait to see all the blankie magic, you'll be done tomorrow right? LOL

Your blankets are gorgeous. Your boys are so lucky. It's so nice when a hand knitted gift is much appreciated and well used.
(And that Sarah Dallas Knitting books looks awesome! I'm ordering it right now.)

Bad Sil,trying to send B all the way across the country ;-)
Isn't that interesting, though, I have also found if I buy a book I don't have an immediate need for, but just am drawn to, I find I soon have a need for one of its patterns--do they put some sort of spell on us?

Posted by: Barb in Sudbury at February 20, 2007 8:26 PM

Wow - put a rush on it Mom! :-D
Quite a difference from his 1st response.
Can't wait to see the next blankie.
I might have to check that book out...

Right on S!!! LOL.
Yes, it's only fair and HUGS to you for being such a wonderful Mummy, but OMG...another blankie to be knit...I guess you'll have something to do when you can't sleep...LOL

I have a variety of colors of the superwash and was intrigued by your idea and got this book -- for a child's blanket how much stitches do you use per strip??thanks
