the return of the pink pattern

I'm on to the next texture pattern and the next pink of wee one's blankie. I'm loving how this strip is coming out.

The first pink pattern needs to be blocked (it shouldn't have that ribby look after blocking), but the second one is just perfect, so sweet and simple.

I really think this is a great idea for a baby blanket, mixing a few bold colors and textural patterns for lots of visual and tactile interest. I sure hope wee one likes her blankie the way that the boys have loved theirs.

Fabulous and I love the tag "brother and sister blankets" !

You are making me want to knit a baby blanket, spent an hour yesterday looking at the log cabin blanket in Mason Dixon knitting....

Posted by: Angie at February 21, 2007 10:09 AM

Gorgeous! I was inspired by you to start my own stripy blanket!

Posted by: Shell at February 21, 2007 10:11 AM

Ah, very sweet.

Posted by: Pigwotknits at February 21, 2007 10:27 AM

Wow, you are such a fast knitter! I'm so glad to see all of your knitting lately as I have a lot of wee ones to knit for myself.

Posted by: Brandy at February 21, 2007 10:28 AM

So cute! I'm kind of wanting one for myself!

Posted by: rachel at February 21, 2007 10:33 AM

Sweet blankies! I love the combination of the pinks and the textures!

Posted by: Jamie at February 21, 2007 10:53 AM

Lovely blankie & I agree with the pattern - lots of nice texture to entice tiny fingers to play but no holes to snag them.

Posted by: Donna at February 21, 2007 11:25 AM

It's wonderful! If I knew of any babies coming up, I'd definitely consider this concept as a gift.

Posted by: Jennifer at February 21, 2007 11:26 AM

It's so sweet -- and looks like the perfect blankie!

Posted by: jennie at February 21, 2007 11:29 AM

Ooh, that's beautiful!

Posted by: C at February 21, 2007 11:49 AM

oh, it looks gorgeous. It will definitely become a treasured item!

It's so pretty! And yes you are so fast! Do you knit continental? You are dangerous--you're making my knitting blankets obsesssion flare up- I took serious rehab for that too.

Your blankets are so bright and happy. I just pulled out my copy of this book and am considering a blanket for my new niece due mid March. Thanks for the inspiration!

Gorgeous! :) Wee one will love it. :)

The blankie is too cute. The color and texture choices fit so well. I love seeing the blankies you have been knitting.

Posted by: Sarah at February 21, 2007 2:22 PM

I love the simple and bold colour choices.

Love that pattern!

Posted by: Sonya at February 21, 2007 3:37 PM

it's beautiful. your new wee one will love it!

Posted by: lynette at February 21, 2007 3:39 PM

I have the same book and love it (and all the beautiful things you knit). How did you scale to baby blanket size?

Posted by: k at February 21, 2007 3:44 PM

I love the simplicity of the pattern, yet it is so much more than stockingette. Cute cute cute is all I can say. I want to know when you find time to knit!

Posted by: Jacqueline at February 21, 2007 3:52 PM

K, I decided to make wee one's blankie approximately 36" square. The texture patterns call for the number of stitches to be divisible by both 10 and by 6+2. So I went with 80 stitches for the width of each strip. For the two-color strip, I cast on 80 and worked about 24" in the first pattern, then did the last 12" in the second pattern. I'll cast on the same number of stitches for the second strip and just work to match the first strip.

What a pretty blankie! I usually prefer crochetted blankies, but the ones you've been showing are quite pretty!

Posted by: Rachel at February 21, 2007 4:56 PM

I love the colors of the blanket! So sweet! The texture also looks really good on it! Shockingly, actually! After seeing that I can hardly imagine any other patterns that would look that nice in the fabric..

What a gorgeous blanket for your soon to be born daugther. I love the idea of the strips too, must be easier than making lots of little squares to sew together. I like the boys ones too, nice, bright and colorful just like they are.

Posted by: Sue at February 21, 2007 6:28 PM

that is soooo cute! I'm sure she'll love it! :)

Posted by: Meg at February 21, 2007 6:41 PM

Of course she'll love it, it's beautiful!!

Posted by: Allie at February 21, 2007 7:10 PM

I love the textures and designs in the boys' new blankets and wee one's, too. So much so that I just placed my order for Sarah's book. Thanks for keeping us in touch with pattern books and your good health and changes in your family. Congrats on your own book -- I also ordered it today and am looking forward to it's arrival in May!!

Posted by: Heidi at February 21, 2007 9:34 PM

Looks great! I love the texture and the colors.

Posted by: Carrie at February 21, 2007 11:10 PM

omg...you knit sooooh fast. It's gorgeous...only one question / criticism...that red strip...is it there to stay? is it really red or HOT PINK...if it's hot pink it's find and my monitor is no good, but if it's red...eh, I don't think red and pink match...I like how it ripples at the ribbing.

Posted by: Orli at February 22, 2007 5:14 AM

I think it looks great, too. Whatever yarn you're using, it shows the stitches beautifully. I love that blankie!

Posted by: carrie at February 22, 2007 6:51 AM

That is a beautiful blanket. She's going to just love it forever.

Posted by: Kate at February 22, 2007 8:48 AM

Love it! I've never really thought about using large blocks of color and different textures for a blanket, but I love the results. Definitely need to make one of these for my little guy.

Posted by: Kelley at February 22, 2007 1:04 PM

I really like the mix of textures. I bet baby will enjoy it too!

Posted by: Deb at February 23, 2007 1:27 AM

Ha, ha, Orli, I remember that you're more of a hot pink kind of gal! You may have a difficult time of it trying to convince the world that red and pink don't go together. ;0)

Yes, the red is staying. I had wanted to use more red, but couldn't find a really good one when I was picking out the yarn. I had this one ball of red in my stash that I thought was just perfect and so am using that just for the edging and seam. I really like it!

Posted by: ALISON at February 23, 2007 9:20 AM

it's absolutely gorgeous!

Posted by: rebecca at February 24, 2007 9:19 AM

I'm liking all these strip blankets, too. This ones' beautiful and sweet but that bright one from your post the other day is great, too. Such a sweet boy!

Posted by: Siri at February 25, 2007 1:31 AM

well Alison...the red pink issue is just one of those things your mummy tells you that sticks. My dear sweet mummy loved bold colors b/c her mummy always dressed her in girley pink...also consider out complexion, I love pastels but don't look that hot in them and my mother had a yellowie complexion so they really did nothing for her. anway, yeah, she told me that red and pink don't match. so that was it.
I just figure keep it all in the family with shades of pink...even if pink is made of red.
Anyway, I know it will come out amazing because after all, you are the knitter I aspire to be.
:-)

This blanket is so cute. It makes me want to have a baby so I can have someone to make this blanket for.
