oh, we are so ready

How ready are we?

I've even finished wee one's blankie, that's how ready we are!

Here's a close up of the panels of her three-textured blankie. The purple came out really nice. I like the all over checkerboard pattern in contrast to the subtler patterns of the other panels and the dark color and with the lighter pinks. And the red - I can't say enough about how perfect I think that red is. And just the right amount of it. If she doesn't love this blankie, I'd be thrilled to keep it for myself!

And now I really can't think of another thing that she could possibly be waiting on.

I would say that I am as anxious as you are for wee one's arrival, but I know that can't be true. I am eager to see a photo of her though. I know she will be as cute and sweet as her brothers. The blankie is beautiful!

Wunderbar, Alison! Is the red a crocheted edge? Perhaps if you drape her blankie across your mid-section, she'll know it's ready? Although, if she feels how soft and warm it is under there, she might not want to come out!

Posted by: Mary at February 28, 2007 9:27 AM

WOW, Alison!!!! I mean how fast do you knit :-) we need to time you. It looks FAB red and all :-)

Posted by: Orli at February 28, 2007 9:40 AM

Wonderful! I'm sure she'll love it (and if she doesn't immediately, there will be "peer pressure" surrounding her suggesting that blankies are to be loved)!

Posted by: Stacie at February 28, 2007 9:45 AM

I LOVE the colours together...it is beautiful.
I want to make a big version for myself

Posted by: michelle at February 28, 2007 9:55 AM

That blanket is fabulous! I think I need one.

Obviously, she's waiting for you to start a project that absolutely cannot be interrupted, or to make plans that will be tremendously difficult/expensive to change. In my experience, that's the most reliable labor-inducer around.

Posted by: Erica at February 28, 2007 9:57 AM

Awesome! The colors and textures are really a great combination.

Best wishes for a smoothe delivery any day now! :)

That is just such a fantastic blanket! So simple, so pretty, so versatile. I think my next blanket will be done in strips, with texture patterns. I'm a vicarious convert!

Posted by: Ruth at February 28, 2007 10:06 AM

I love that! I wouldn't mind having one for myself either!

Posted by: Mary Heather at February 28, 2007 10:09 AM

It's perfect! Beautiful blanket.

Posted by: Oiyi at February 28, 2007 10:16 AM

she's probably just being a good lil' sister and waiting for you to finish her big brother's blanket. How sweet, they all will have brand new blankies!

Posted by: knittingnurse at February 28, 2007 10:18 AM

you are a knitting machine.

Posted by: sara at February 28, 2007 10:21 AM

Not quite enough for me to want to have another baby, but very close. Good try! (And great blankie!)

Posted by: Beth in WI at February 28, 2007 10:23 AM

Where is the baby?! I was so convinced that you would be having that baby today... well, or tomorrorow :) Pick one wee one! The blanket is absolutely fabulous. Beautiful colors. Beautiful knitting.

Posted by: Dani at February 28, 2007 10:30 AM

Your wee one on the way is SO lucky! It makes me want a blanket to snuggle up with, heh. The textured patterns look really nice! Beautiful!

Posted by: C at February 28, 2007 10:42 AM

What a lucky little girl!

Posted by: rachel at February 28, 2007 10:45 AM

It looks gorgeous!

Posted by: emma at February 28, 2007 10:51 AM

I love the pattern...all of them. I asked for the book for my bday. My mom is wanting a blankie but all in neutrals...the texture of that would be lovely.

Posted by: Darci at February 28, 2007 10:53 AM

That is one beautiful blanket! I really like the textured look in combination with the different colors.

Posted by: Dorothee at February 28, 2007 10:57 AM

The colors, the patterns ... it's so beautiful. She's going to love it!

Posted by: Sherry at February 28, 2007 11:23 AM

Wow, that was some fast knitting! It looks great. I'm glad you're feeling so prepared. Exciting, isn't it?

Posted by: carrie at February 28, 2007 11:30 AM

Holy cow, you must knit with the speed of light!

When is it you're due again?

The blanket is beautiful :)

I love the blanket! It is simply beautiful!

Posted by: beckie at February 28, 2007 12:21 PM

A package from me. That's what.

Though I think she'll arrive before my package does. :)

Posted by: Laura at February 28, 2007 12:32 PM

I think it's just lovely. And I'm amazed at your knitting speed!

Posted by: Sachi at February 28, 2007 12:51 PM

What a great blankie! I love the colors you chose.
And congrats on the impending arrival - I'm sure she'll love the blanket.

Gorgeous! Well knit. You make me want to have another look at those Sarah Dallas patterns. Best wishes for her arrival!

Posted by: Carol at February 28, 2007 2:33 PM

Oh dear, you poor thing. Hang in there.

Posted by: LaurieM at February 28, 2007 2:38 PM

She's just taking her time, but you're certainly enticing her with that BEAUTIFUL blanket.

Posted by: Allie at February 28, 2007 3:48 PM

Perfect blankie! How can she resist such a pretty handknit?

Posted by: Brenda at February 28, 2007 5:01 PM

I really love how the three textured patterns go together but all are a bit different. It is a beautiful blankie, for (what I expect to be) a beautiful girl!

Posted by: Kim at February 28, 2007 5:34 PM

The blanket is gorgeous. I ordered the Sarah Dallas book as a result of all your recent knitting. Blogs are such dangerous places - they seduce you with lovely colours, soft wools and enthusiasm!
Good luck with the baby!

Posted by: Enna at February 28, 2007 6:57 PM

Congratulations! I really marvel at how much you have accomplished, what with twin boys, a book project and a wee one on the way to keep you busy. Hope you get some much deserved relaxation and kick up your feet to chill out when the boys are asleep.

Posted by: Juls at February 28, 2007 7:21 PM

You are ready, and that's a super cute blankie! I'm sure wee one will love it, and mommy will be out of luck, haha.

Posted by: Danielle at February 28, 2007 7:41 PM

YAY! looks gorgeous and lush and soft and cuddly!!! :)

Posted by: Meg at February 28, 2007 7:53 PM

Your blanket is adorable! And I just preordered your HP Knits book--can't wait to get it. Best wishes!

Posted by: Luisa at February 28, 2007 8:45 PM

Awwwww. She will most certainly love that blanket (if she knows what's good for her). Now, kiddo, come out already.

Posted by: Lucia at February 28, 2007 8:51 PM

I love all the blankets you have made recently. Very sweet, detailed and just adorable.

Posted by: Melissa at March 1, 2007 5:58 AM

Wow...wee one will be ever so wrapped in knitted love!

Posted by: Phoebe at March 1, 2007 6:54 AM

It seems that this happens all too often - the babes threaten out early and then once you reach the all clear stage, it's too comfy a space to leave. Beautiful blankets! Take care Alison.

Posted by: Sonya at March 1, 2007 7:41 AM

maybe you're waiting for the snow to melt a little more? Great blanket, I love the colors and the textures. That red is perfect. I haven't made Zoe's yet, maybe I'll have to check out the pattern! (yep, and Zoe's already 3. Bad knitter, I am)

Posted by: thea at March 1, 2007 7:42 AM

I've always assumed that the name of your blog was a reference to your boys. Once the pink starts to take over and wee one arrives, will the blog name change?

Beautiful blanket!

Posted by: diane at March 1, 2007 9:05 AM

The blankies are wonderful! What a good knitting mommy you are. Just wanted to know, how do you join the sections so that they look so smooth?
Looking forward to your wee ones arrival,
Carole

Posted by: Carole W. at March 1, 2007 9:54 AM

it's perfect! wee one is going to be so comfy.

Posted by: rebecca at March 1, 2007 10:12 AM

Carole, the only seam is the vertical one down the middle and it's done with single crochet. I like these blankets that Sarah Dallas creates in her book because they're all joined like this.

The edgings at the top and bottom of each section are just a cast on/bind off row in the contrast color and the detail between the pinks is just two knit rows forming a garter stitch edge. So the only seaming is that one center crochet seam and when the strips are really close in size, joining row to row from strip to strip matches up pretty well.

S's blankie was a little trickier to seam neatly because his stripe sequence strip (which I knit second - doh!) ended up being a slightly different length than the solid color strip, but there's plenty of room for easing in excess when you're working a basic crochet seam.

I just love the way your blanket turned out! Now I have yet another project I want to knit...

Posted by: Marti at March 1, 2007 10:57 AM

Gorgeous blankie! She can come anytime now :)
