something blue

I was just thinking that the baby needed something blue. Thanks to my friends and family, wee one won't be stuck wearing only boy truck/soccer ball/train hand-me-downs; she's pretty set now with pink onesies and sleepers. And I made her a pink sweater and a white sweater and a purple sweater. But she should have something lovely and blue and girly too.

All I kept thinking about was baby pants, baby pants, baby pants, I gotta knit baby pants. It seemed like a good way to use up a small amount of yarn and when I saw the cool pants that B knit for her daughter and posted here at the baby bumpers blog, I knew I had to try making some. I ordered some blue jean blue Knitpicks Shine Sport (since Elinor gave it such a good review here) and pulled out Last-Minute Knitted Gifts to make the awesome little drawstring pants for wee one. (Check out the ones Mames made here!)

I've already got one leg done. I'm doing a little picot edge instead of the seed stitch to girl it up just a bit and I love how they're coming out! The Shine is sooooo soft it's unbelievable and I think the whole pair may only take two balls (um, that's $5 for a pair of pants, people - that's lower than babyGap prices!).

And then, as I started knitting my something blue for baby, I received a wonderful surprise package in the mail.

This beautiful little sweater was knit by Karen at wooly-minded. It is so sweet! And it's in a beautiful blue-purple shade of Rowan wool cotton. I just love the little squiggles along the edges. I remember seeing them for a while in some of the Rowan patterns and thinking they're cool, but there's no way I'd actually make all those! Thanks so much Karen for such a lovely, special gift.

And now baby will have some blue things. Blue girl things. Blue is good.

I love all of your projects for the wee one and your boys. I just wanted to know if the sock creatures got finished? I recently purchased the book and thought they would be a silly, fun thing.

She's going to have the best wardrobe in town:) I love that sweater and what a good idea to add picot to the pant edging. Very feminine.

You like blue? Who knew?

What a thoughtful friend!
Absolutely darling sweater!

Adorable sweater!

I knitted those pants for my nephew (who should be born any minute). They turn out SO cute! Everyone who has seen them just gushes. I used less than one ball of Cotton Ease that I bought for $2. I hadn't even thought about what a great deal that is!

Your baby girl will be such a fashion plate.

OMG, the sweater is delicious! I adore that color. (Now see what you've done: the next periwinkle yarn I see, resistance will be futile.) I can't wait to see the pants either.

That spiral is amazing. Rather you than me is all I can say.

Those pants will be adorable. Really, what is cuter than a baby in some sweat pants? The sweater that your friend gave you is so sweet! I can't imagine making all of those squiggles either, but they certainly are cute.

I love the picot edge on the pants. Cute! And the sweater is precious too!

Blue & purple go together well! Although if you put both of those items on wee one, and she's a little baldy-baby to begin with, you might get a lot of, "awww, isn't HE cute?!" So I guess it's better to mix them up w/ the pink stuff! So cute.

I'm single, in my early 40's, and have no prospects for having kids, and I'm perfectly fine with that, EXCEPT for the fact that I won't have the fun of knitting baby stuff for my own kid. I envy that, a little. Enjoy! :-)

Oooh, ooh, you should make some solid purple pants to go with the purple sweater. Tee hee!

Love those pants!

Hey, I'm glad you liked my review. I love the edging on that sweater! Totally adorable. I have to say that of the baby pants I've made, the most successful ones were the ones that I used elastic in the waist. They stay up better than draw string. I just made a waist band and set in a 1" wide elastic before tacking it down. Just a though!

I love the baby pants! That looks like a great pattern, and I love Shine, too. :0)

Baby pants! Too cute! You just gave me a brilliant idea! :) They're going to be so sweet. I love the sweater gift. It's beautiful.

Wee one is going to be a stylish baby! Don't forget to knit something stylish for yourself so you can be a stylish duo.

Pants from the bottom up? Interesting .... I'm a big fan of Little Turtle Knits longies, which are knit in the round from the waist down. It's such a wonderful, snuggly thing to wrap a baby in!

I'm due at the end of March, and am just NOW beginning to knit for the baby. And I'm not even sure if it's a boy or a girl, so for now it's gender neutral all the way!!

May I suggest Malabrigo yarns for baby knitting as well? They're so soft and easy to work (a bit pilly, though, just so you know), that they're a wonderful baby yarn. I've done several longies in them, and am hoping to do a sweater, too.

Can't wait to see the longies.

I love, love, love each and every one of your baby sweaters! Your knitting is inspiring me to start some new projects :)

Blue IS good. I can't wait to see wee one in those lovely picot-edged pants!!

Blue is cool! That's a nice shade that should spice up her wardrobe, heheh. And what a lovely gift for the little one! I love the ruffly edges.

Hey, that picot edging for the pants is lovely! Your wee one will be quite the knitted fashion plate!

Do you happen to know what patten your friend used to make the darling periwinkle sweater for your little one? The edging is adorable, and I really like the construction and finishing on it.

Also am looking forward to any Harry Potter knitting you do for your wee one!

Glad you liked the sweater! And glad it arrived before the big day, I was getting worried. And of course it's blue! That yarn was destined for my own little girl, before she unaccountably got too big. It was fun to knit something little again.

The pattern is "Relish" from Rowan Babies.

great stuff as usual. Um I was wondering, do we have a name for wee one? she will be the best knit dressed, little girl in town.

I often put my infant daughter in shades of blue and developed the saying "Confident girls wear blue." So far, that's true for her. Blue is great!
