overdue

So baby L ended up arriving exactly one day overdue. Just late enough so that I could finish the long overdue geek baby sweater! In fact, I dropped off the package at the post office the morning I started having contractions.

It turned out to be plenty big for fireman doll, so I'm moderately confident that it'll fit the little boy I knit it for.

A word about this Crystal Palace chenille... I do like it. The result is soft and washable and the colors are really awesome. I knit it down on US6's to be sure there wasn't any worming like you get sometimes with chenille when it's not knit tightly. The only thing that bothers me is its tendency to bias. The other baby sweater I've knit with this yarn also had this problem. It really shouldn't be noticeable when the baby is actually wearing the sweater, but it does make measuring and seaming a bit tricky and can make the final product look a little wonky when it's laid down flat.

The Loop-d-Loop pattern was really excellent though. The front was very clearly explained with an extremely helpful chart and the other body pieces were quite simple. I'm really glad that I finally got to make something from this unique book. It was long overdue.

Sweet! I love the brightness of the pattern. That'll be one cute little guy running around. Good for you, and you finish-itis at a time when you were starting such a big endeavor! =)

it is so gorgeous Alison. I love all the colors. I'd like to hear your take on the Loop de Loop book...i'm fearful of buying knitting books only to find out I just like one pattern...but oh, I so do have to make this sweater for someone....

That's a girl for you, fashionably late. (My DD was 2 days overdue. She waited for her great-grandmother's birthday.)

Baby L is gorgeous, all pink and cheeky just like a baby should be. Can't wait to see her modeling all those cute baby things you made for her.

Congratulations to you and your family. The boys will be great big brothers.

And the Baby Geek looks great too. :)

beautiful work--and good timing! I've been curious about the chenille--hard on the hands?

What a great sweater! You can just see how soft it is.

This is really beautiful. I keep taking Loop-d-Loop out of the library just to bask in its glory, but I haven't bought it because I don't know if I'd ever take the leap and actually knit one of the sweaters. Beautiful sweater... and beautiful baby, by the way!

The sweater is fantastic! In fact you have inspired me to knit the sweater for a friend's little boy who was born in the fall. She keeps referring to him as her little "baby geek" since his dad is a big nerd. What better than a baby geek sweater for the "baby geek". BTW, good job on the wee one, she is beautiful!

The sweater came out great! Glad you got it finished before your lifed changed drastically for the good. I met Teva Durham (Loop d Loop author) last fall at the Knitter's Review retreat. She's got a crochet book coming out soon, I believe....

Just wanted to say congratulations and many blessings for you and yur family. She is so sweet! My BFF is having her 3rd this July so I'll be reviewing all the baby things from you to get ideas. Hope the boys adore their sister and that you are getting a bit of rest!

Your sweater turned out beautifullly!

I just started blogging and your blog has always been an inspiration for me--it's always interesting to read. : )

I just have to say I've been reading you for a long time -- not many comments though -- and your detailed entry on this sweater including needle sizes, and worming and all is just so YOU. You are just so competent and focused... With a days-old baby in the house in addition to the other two who are really pretty young, still keeping up the knits. You are amazing! [and I have three myself and I don't remember getting much done when they were little]

Looks great!

Thanks for the comments about the chenille. I knit myself a black sweater in Chenille many years ago and never wore it because of the the bias thing. It was such a waste.
All the best with baby and everything else.

Congrats to you! How sweet she is. And the boys are too.

You are amazing, you know that don't you? I think one would be hard-pressed to find a more dedicated knitter!

Wow - it's stunning. Quite honestly, I think it's one of the most inspiring patterns I've seen in ages. It's dramatic, beautiful, colorful, and the pattern looks like a challenge. Congratulations on a masterpiece!
