march 9, 2007

you've come a long way, baby

mid September

late February

today

Look at those long fingers! Remember how we saw those long fingers in the ultrasound? They really were that long!

And remember the "big head" ultrasound comment? Well, as soon as the baby was out, the nurse actually said, 'I didn't want to say anything while you were pushing, but she's got a big head!' My doctor agreed. Still, her daisy hat was too big to wear home from the hospital, so she should be able to wear all the itty bitty hats I made for her. Phew!

Thanks so much to all of you for the warm wishes and congratulations and the funny comments. I'm still reading through all of them. I'm overwhelmed by your kindness as well as all the joys and responsibilities of having a new baby at home. And a big thanks to Shannon for posting. It was so fun sending all the pics and messages from the hospital!

Welcome home Mom and Baby L. I am so thrilled you are both healthy.

Posted by: michelle at March 9, 2007 11:50 AM

Welcome back, and congratulations! The wee one is beautiful and she's so lucky to be a part of your family.

Posted by: grumperina at March 9, 2007 11:51 AM

Congratulations! Baby L is just lovely!

Posted by: Julie at March 9, 2007 11:55 AM

Thank you for sharing the joy! Your children are lovely.

Posted by: lacewing at March 9, 2007 11:56 AM

Obviously a future piano player (with plenty of brains to hold all those memorized scores!).

Congratulations, and welcome home!

Posted by: Ruth at March 9, 2007 12:03 PM

Once again a great creation! She lookes lovely and I hope she enjoys all the knits you made for her! Have fun :)

Posted by: Karen at March 9, 2007 12:03 PM

Thank you for sharing. I have enjoyed watching the twins grow up via your blog and now we can share the joy of your lovely, lovely girl. Can't wait to see her in the different hats and sweaters you knit for her.

(I MUST restrain myself from ordering my twins to get married and give me a grandchild this year!!! The brats are 33 and still single.)

Posted by: Judith in NYC at March 9, 2007 12:13 PM

My god, I've never seen fingers that long on a baby!! Can only mean one thing Alison - should I bring her some addi circs on Sunday, perhaps a little Cashsoft? ;)

Congrats again - we can't wait to meet her! ~gabriella

Posted by: gabriella at March 9, 2007 12:17 PM

Those fingers are amazing. She'll go to college on a basketball scholarship, I predict!

Posted by: Carole at March 9, 2007 12:17 PM

She is one sweet baby, but given how adorable the boys are, it was a given. ;-)

Posted by: Carrie at March 9, 2007 12:17 PM

Congratulations Alison! I can't wait to meet her.

Posted by: Terri at March 9, 2007 12:20 PM

Such a lovely baby girl! I am glad you are both doing so well. Maybe she'll become a great pianist with her long fingers. Think how pretty she'll look in handknit gloves!

I just found your blog last week. I'm enjoying it!

Posted by: Brenda at March 9, 2007 12:21 PM

I wish you all the best :-)

Posted by: Heike at March 9, 2007 12:22 PM

I got this from handanalysis.com:

Longer fingers are seeking more contact with, and information from, the outer world. Long fingered people love details, need more data before forming opinions or decisions, and are outer directed. They are interested in the details of stories and events. They like to mentally take ideas and things apart, and put them back together again to better understand them before taking action.

I see very complicated knitting and Legos combinations in her future!

Posted by: Dava at March 9, 2007 12:22 PM

She is just beautiful. I can't wait to meet her. Welcome home!

Posted by: Johanna at March 9, 2007 12:24 PM

Oh, she's gorgeous! Those long fingers and sweet cheeks! I predict a knitter. :)

Posted by: Carrie at March 9, 2007 12:32 PM

AWWWWWW.....She almost makes me want 1 more...notice the almost, I already have 4 ranging in ages from 17-2...enough!
She is beautiful and so are your boys. I can't wait to see all the knits you will whip up for her...I've enjoyed watching the boys model theirs so much (nosewarmers are still my favorite!). Better get started on a tiny HP sweater...

Posted by: Ridgeley at March 9, 2007 12:37 PM

She's so sweet-looking. Congratulations. It's not surprising that "big head" and all everything is still too big on her. Even big babies are still tiny. :) My son was 8lbs 15oz at birth and basically swam in his clothes for the first month at least.

Posted by: Sarah at March 9, 2007 12:44 PM

She's just getting sweeter every minute, isn't she? I do think she takes after her big brothers, too.

Posted by: Daphne at March 9, 2007 12:45 PM

Hurray! Congratulations Alison! Looks like piano lessons are in order!

Posted by: gaile at March 9, 2007 12:50 PM

I still marvel at Liv's long fingers. Better make room for a piano!

Posted by: Kerstin at March 9, 2007 12:54 PM

Looks like you've got a future piano player (and future knitter) living with you now! Rest, relax and enjoy! :-)

Posted by: Mary at March 9, 2007 12:58 PM

Congratulations! She is a beautiful baby!

Posted by: Yvonne at March 9, 2007 1:00 PM

Oh, and props to you for not missing a single blogging beat while in labor and delivery! Now, THATS a dedicated blogger! :-)

Posted by: Mary at March 9, 2007 1:01 PM

Awww... she's so darling! Rest, Momma, Rest! She's a beauty... hope S&B like her!

best of luck!

How's that for a FO?!

Congratulations on a job well done.

Don't know if you know this but according to the Asian Zodiac, this is the year of the pig. But even more, it is the year of the golden pig which only comes around every 600 years or so. So there are a lot of women who want to have babies this year so that they could have a golden pig! Boy babies are lucky but girl babies are even luckier this year. So wishing you, your family and your lucky little golden pig all the best!

Posted by: tiennie at March 9, 2007 2:15 PM

Pianist or harpist? Either way, very sweet looking.

Posted by: Nadia Lewis at March 9, 2007 2:18 PM

Posted by: Colleen at March 9, 2007 2:39 PM

Awww, so cute. One of your three best FOs, right? What's it like going from having twins to having one baby? It must be so different from when you had 2 boy babies - now you have 1 girl baby. What's THAT like??

Posted by: Elinor at March 9, 2007 3:10 PM

Congratulations! It's great to see you have time for posting, even among all the newness in your life. She is truly beautiful.

Posted by: Anne-Caroline at March 9, 2007 3:17 PM

best of wishes to the whole family!

Posted by: HPNY Knits at March 9, 2007 4:56 PM

Before I even read your post I looked at the picture of Baby L and thought, "My, what long fingers! Future piano player?"

When I had my first son my husband and best friend were in with me, and all they did was crack jokes about football-headed Stewie off The Family Guy. I was not impressed. (Luckily he didn't have a big head, but I wasn't in the mood for jokes!)

Baby L is absolutely gorgeous, and I can't wait to see her grow into all of her beautiful hand knits!

Posted by: Sheri at March 9, 2007 4:58 PM

It is such a joy to see your little one! Just think of all the wonderful things she will be doing with those marvelously long fingered hands. Surely, growing up in a room full of luscious yarn will have an influence!
I loved the pic of the boys talking together while looking at her - the joy and wonder on their faces!

Congratulations- being a bit over 5 months pregnant myself at the moment, and having read my way through your pregnancy, it's nice to see the end product of it all. She does have long fingers- perfect for plenty of crafting later in life (that is if she doesn't get distracted by piano playing).

Posted by: di at March 10, 2007 3:17 AM

Just a side note: if her toes are long too, you might want to have her checked for Marfan's. It's a good thing to find early instead of getting a bit of a surprise later on.
